MN: Pioli relies on another unprecedented pairing for crucial game against Juventus

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli will once again rely on a centre-back pairing that he has not used so far this season, and in a huge game against Juventus.

MilanNews writes that despite a shaky performance against Spezia, Pierre Kalulu is convincing Pioli more and more and he will count on him for the big match on Sunday evening against Juve, when he will be deployed alongside Alessio Romagnoli who is back after testing negative for Covid.

A Kalulu-Romagnoli pairing has not been seen before but it is out of necessity more than anything, given the Rossoneri captain must come back because of his experience, while the athleticism and aggression of the Frenchman means they are on paper a complimentary pairing.

After facing the in-form Tammy Abraham, Kalulu wants to show himself in a big match and it will be a big test for him, but also for Romagnoli who returns to the starting line after almost a month out and of course there is the issue of his contract renewal also overhanging.

  1. I’m sure they’ll do just fine. I think the battle is at the other end of the pitch and will also likely be determined by the team that bosses the midfield. Juve were great but heyday is likely over. Sadly, Milan didn’t prepare properly to take over from where Juve left off.

    1. Tonali will have to be mom Sunday, Calabria should start with Florenzi at mid, Baka is too indecisive and is as slow to react.

  2. they should just allow Ibra play the number 10 role, behind Giroud, he did it well against spezia in the final minutes & he won all balls kicked out from our back line, also, he cannot get manhandled by the defenders the way Diaz would. we need to win balls & hold on to balls, it would even allow Leao/Rebic, Saelemakers & Giroud opportunity to free themselves & score
