AC Milan have put off investing in a centre-forward for quite some time, and the issue is beginning to cause some fans to lose patience.
It feels like if Christian Pulisic or Tijjani Reijnders don’t find the net then Milan struggle, as seen in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Cagliari. Alvaro Morata did bag the Rossoneri’s only goal but he isn’t scoring frequently enough, while Tammy Abraham missed multiple big chances.
This is why a quality reinforcement becomes necessary to raise the level of the attack, but – as Lorenzo and Stefano spoke about in the latest video on our channel – there has been a neglect regarding investment in the position.
The Rossoneri from 2020 to today have spent a total of €16m on strikers, spread over 11 players. It of course factors in only transfer fees and not wages or signing bonuses. Of that total, €14m was on Morata in the summer, the price of his release clause.
With all the links to the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Benjamin Sesko, Santiago Gimenez and others in recent windows, it sees as though the directors keep going for the low-risk option.
In the meantime, Inter have Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram, Atalanta are seeing goals from multiple sources, Juventus invested in Dusan Vlahovic, while Napoli had Victor Osimhen and now Romelu Lukaku.

What an utterly ridiculous, stupid table…. Milan have spent a fortune on strikers, just not on the transfer fees. Even now, we have four dedicated forwards on the books earning over 20M per season combined (gross). That’s not including Camarda, Okafor or any wingers. Spending money hasn’t been the issue, buying players to fit a tactical style is currently the problem. Giroud and Ibra worked out well in Pioli’s system.
I think the point is that the transfer market is conditioned by the lack of spending. Giroud and Ibra worked out well-ish, and then they spent one season in the treatment room and then they were gone. The others haven’t offered much. Also, signing 36 year olds that last a couple of seasons and then having to find a new striker all over again isn’t a strategy. Also, this article is about STIKERS not any other position. Mentioning the wingers is a red herring.
“Spending money hasn’t been the issue, buying players to fit a tactical style is currently the problem.” Not sure what you’re trying to say. You disagree with the article then make a statement that supports the article’s point. Buying players to fit a tactical style IS currently the problem BECAUSE we DON’T BUY players to fit the tactical system. We sign whatever half-baked free agent we can sign and hope for the best, instead of spending the money on exactly what we need.
LOL
“Milan have spent a fortune on strikers just not on transfer fees”
That is the very definition of penny wise pound foolish
Refusing to invest in a proper striker and ending up wasting a fortune in wages.
Its like spending 100 euro a month on patching up a leaky pipe over and over instead of replacing it for 500 and being done
Aside from Lazetic and Morata, Milan have received an number of goals/$ spent on striker transfers. Amazing moneyball! /s
Strange. It deleted part of my comment. Here is how the comment is supposed to read:
Aside from Lazetic and Morata, Milan have received an (undefined) number of goals/$ spent on striker transfers. Amazing moneyball! /s
Giroud did not arrived free.
After so many failed #9 purchases it’s understandable that the want to get this right. Andre Silva was probably the last big money striker and he failed miserably. Higuain was supposed to be “a hit” too but even his loan spell was cut off if I remember correctly.
I’d say take Rashford on loan now, bench Abraham and give Camarda more minutes. There are way more/better strikers available in the summer – if we reach UCL next season that is.
First, Giroud was brought for 5M€, granted it’s not a lot of money and only raise the total to 21M€ but still.
I get the point of this table but it’s a bit misleading, Camarda, Colombo are home products and Abraham is currently on loan.
It still works out to the same. Using homegrown players that are not ready or capable is tantamount to NOT SPENDING what needs to be spent on players who will deliver. Playing youth that “cost nothing” over spending 40-50M on a proper proven striker is a choice.
There is a reason why milan is toothless in front of goal. We have 20 million cap transfer fee, we need to keep this trend.
We need to keep the money, mr cardinale still want his eighth yatch.
How many times have we read comments here like “our problem isn’t scoring goals”
The same people who said Zirkzee will help others score more. LOL
We need a proper goal scorer end of story.
Surprise surprise Rashford is not that
Wasn’t pushing for Zirkzee but I used to say that our issue isn’t goals but only in the context of defence first then sort out the attack in ranking importance. Right now we’re not doing good on either. Look at last year our problem wasn’t the goals it was defence particularly in midfield. In years past when we did well defensively we’re higher up the table and it’s usually the case in Serie A this pans out that way.
Statistics contradict this statement. After we switched from Fonseca’s weird hybrid with so many spaces between lines to Conceicao compact setup defense improved radically.
Milan was dedicated to save the money. And in long term they lost the money finishing below 4th position
Get victor gyokeres next summer. He is already unhappy at sporting. Sell unused player to fund that like saladmaker, adili,RLC,pobega, terraciano, okafor, chukwu. You want to win ? Only by scoring goal not ball possesion . The last time ACM buying good striker are carlos bacca 30m euro ( not free transfer like ibra or giroud)
Jonathan David is ok
Poor cardinale. Ged Rid of him, Zlatan and the other directors. Only backward since they manage
If Milan sell Chukuwueze, milan must fast to recruit Mason Greenwood, i think he better than rashford, n also he’s younger than rashford, and he can use as left right or second striker too
