MN: Milan intend to invest in a new right winger – the two names currently targeted

By Oliver Fisher -

The Milan management know that a right winger is needed this summer and there are currently two targets in mind, according to a report.

According to MilanNews, Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara are on the hunt for the right reinforcement to give Stefano Pioli an upgrade on his current options of Alexis Saelemaekers and Junior Messias.

Noa Lang from Club Brugge is on the wish list and he is admired not only because of his technical skills but also because of his confidence and bravado, but this latter side of his character is leading him to make some interesting and controversial statements in the media.

Marco Asensio of Real Madrid would be an ideal name and the possible intertwining with agent Jorge Mendes during the Rafael Leao and Renato Sanches talks could help, but Milan only intend to make one sacrifice in terms of breaking the internal salary cap and they intend for that to be on Leao’s renewal.

  1. Asensio is a modern right winger (left footed), Lang is not (right footed). Surely they know which of those profiles they want (classic vs inverted winger)?

Not buying that these are considerations for RW.

Asensio makes a lot of sense from a footballing point of view, not sure whether he’d be affordable or not, I assume unlikely if Man Utd are in the race and Madrid want to keep him.

  2. I don’t know the reason why people complain about right footed lang, was shevchenko left footed. pls watch his video clips on youtube he played as right winger at Ajax. some people comment as if it is a must they comment. you can also say a striker must not be left footed

    1. It’s not a requirement, but it is the way Milan and many other teams play in the modern age, have inverted wingers who have better shooting potential if they’re on the ‘opposite’ foot to their wing – that’s how Leao has been so successful – wing backs like Hernandez are the new crossing wingers. Now sometimes Leao and Hernandez swap roles and Hernandez comes inside, but there’s not really been that consistent approach on the right side; it would be nice to have a left footed attacking threat.
