MN: Milan had the ‘most explosive’ January mercato in RedBird ‘history’ – the details

AC Milan made some huge deals in the January mercato, and a report has claimed that it is the ‘most explosive’ January in the club’s history.

Kyle Walker, Santiago Gimenez, Joao Felix, Warren Bondo, Riccardo Sottil – five signings all joining in January, all of which arguably improve the squad as it has been left. Walker’s arrival facilitated the exit of Davide Calabria, Gimenez’s for Morata, Sottil for Okafor and Bennacer’s forced exit made a move for Bondo necessary.

Milan News have compared the additions to some made in the history of the Rossoneri, even stating that it is the ‘most explosive’ mid-season window in the recent history of the club.

The reasoning for such a statement is the quality and number of players that arrived. Not only have the club reinforced their depth, but the Diavolo have added quality to their first XI, which has been a necessity all season, so acting upon this is a huge tick.

With fans demanding answers, the management were active in their pursuit of deals. In fact, it is the biggest January mercato that Milan have taken part in since the 2018/19 season when Lucas Paqueta and Krzysztof Piatek arrived with a net spending of -€72.8 million.

Since RedBird’s arrival, the owners have a net balance of just more than -€3m in the 2022/23 and 2023/24 January windows. In this window, Milan exceeded that balance by a net figure of -€33m for a total net spend of -€36m.

Fans asked for the club’s money to be put where their mouth and aspirations are, and they did that.

  1. Not really explosive, Walker was a good acquisition, Felix has failed too often to be deemed a good signing right now, Gimenez looks promising, dont know too much about Sottil, Bondo looks interesting too

    1. Do you need some napkins so hou can wipe your tears bud?

Read the tittle. What else did you expect? Galacticos?

Go and check if there is a club on the face of the earth that comes close? Newcatle has more money then Serie A combined and they have soent less, and yes it is owned by ritch Arabs

God, Milan fans have more stars in crying then Juve has tittles

    2. Not sure why people keep saying Felix is a failure.
Over the past 5 seasons, he averages 10 goals and 4-5 assists. This year alone he’s already on 7 goals and 2 assists on under 950 minutes played.

Whilst not superstar stats, those are pretty good numbers that many attacking midfielders players don’t even get to consistently, much less year on year.

Heck, last season Leao and Pulisic had 29 and 26 G&A respectively. Both played +3500 minutes each.

Felix’s 10 goals and 6 assists in ~2100 minutes is actually comparable.

I think people, mostly Atletico fans, are too harsh on him because they paid superstar money for a really good player.

  2. They did us right and we should be happy with the moves. Is signing a player a gamble? Isn’t it always? Sure, maybe we shouldn’t have signed Emerson. But that’s the past. And they signed all the right players this winter. Gimenez and Walker the two highlights.

Walker brings a sort of calmness to our defense. More composure. The other signings will be useful too.

  3. This Mercato is sure a plus
Considering how d team has been performing below par in recent weeks
    Dis upgrade is needed
    Praise d management for once
For trying to right d wrong of d summer
    Starting with a new coach

  4. Well considering all the money they spent since Maldini left it seems this is the last throw of the dice for Redbird if this fails then it could be the last of Redbird. Let’s see what happens this season and next.

    1. This cardinale milan is in panic button because small chance to qualify for champions league next season so they break their 20 million limit transfer for gimenez.

  5. Not bad on paper but will see how it looks on the field. Felix is only a loan and he is the biggest name. If he upgrades our quality Chelsea might want too much money for him in the summer. Gimenez is ok he will need service tho. Which brings me to Bondo, again not bad player but he is not Ricci. Which should have been the number one target. A mid that can defend and be a deep playmaker too. Last selling Calabria instead of Emerson is a huge minus. Constantly selling players that bond with the club and than they complain when they can’t create a tight structure of players who are ready to give it all for the shirt lol. You bring just mercenaries, you get a mercenary mentality in the locker room. P.S Walker is ok too since he is cheap and an option to buy.

  6. On the paper looks explosives. But are these new recruits will be explosives in a good way or explosives as a big flop, just like Emerson, RLC, Musah, Chuk, and Moratta.

  7. Let’s give these players our support. Management on the other hand got rid of many of their own players (admit failure). We sign Santi 35 million and two loanees Felix and Walker. Walker great signing but he is 34 so short term. Felix is a loan and not sure what we’ll get. We will be better, but to jump at least 4 positions on the table? If you are geeking out over Sottil and Bondo you get 5 booms.

    1. Over €200 million in 18 months. The only thing pathetic is your whining. Stop complaining and get behind the team or find another club. People like you aren’t welcome.

      1. Mr. Hulk it’s okay your next ride will give you better tip. Telling people they aren’t welcome because you disagree with them is not right. You can choose to ignore them, that is the way. Come to mention tho you said they spend over 200 million and the team has regressed to 8th place? That does make it sound pathetic.

        1. They’re 18 months into ownership. They don’t know what they’re doing, they will make mistakes. When they try to correct their mistakes, they shouldn’t be criticised.

      2. Agree. It doesnt matter what happens ot what the ownerS do.. there always this rasist cellar dwelling loonies who neve accomplished anything in their life crying.

        1. Ah the racist claims. Nice deflection. But think my friend if you are happy with Milan in 8th place while others demand more it appears you are satisfied with not accomplishing anything.

  8. I think from the looks of its a pretty good incoming mercato but I think it can always be debated if its an explosive one. 2 of the players who arrived are loans with an option to buy in Walker + Sottil and then a loan without an option in Felix. Gimenez + Bondo buys.
Of all the arrivals I’m the most convinced about the additions of Gimenez and Walker. The rest might turn out good but nothing to extravagant either considering Felix is just a loan.
We also lost 4 players in Morata, Okafor, Bennacer and Calabria who regardless whether people liked them still had some quality to offer so overall I will say that this mercato is 7-7.5 out of 10 which certainly isn’t to be frowned at either. Had Felix and Walker already been bought I would certainly would add an extra rating though.

  9. The best singing was Conseicao – if they’d just got him in the first place maybe they wouldn’t have to have done a summer mercato in January…

  10. Well, it’s not THAT explosive…
I wouldn’t hurry up to praise for winter signings.

RESULTS are in downfall since Redbird takeover. Let’s first qualify for the UCL next season. Juve is our main opponent for that.

It seems like there is a clause on everyone contract at board that if we don’t qualify, Stuart Little, Scaroni, Ibra and Moncada (may) loose their job, therefore, they were running in last day of Mercato.

Anyway, let’s stay positive and hope for the best
