Repubblica: Milan could build new stadium without Inter as financial uncertainty persists

AC Milan will soon change ownership and that has opened up a new hypothesis regarding the stadium project, according to a report.

According to La Repubblica (via MilanNews), the founder of RedBird Capital – Gerry Cardinale – is in Milano and that will begin the process of signing documents leading to the eventual sale of the club to the American fund by Elliott Management.

The hot topic is that of the new stadium and Cardinale considers it absolutely essential in RedBird’s plans for the Rossoneri. The source claims that in his first 48 hours in Italy he visited both the San Siro area and Sesto San Giovanni, which are the proposed sites for the new structure.

The intention is to get things moving as soon as possible and that might mean leaving Inter behind. The Nerazzurri are in an uncertain financial situation having racked up a lot of debt through loans and bonds, and if they threaten to slow down the process then RedBird could insist on Milan going alone.

  1. This would be amazing. I’ve never wanted to share a new stadium with Inter. No other “top” clubs in Europe share their stadium with another. And if Sesto San Giovanni would welcome a new stadium and Inter can’t afford it then let’s go there and they can stay at San Siro. It would be so great having our own brand new 60-65k stadium decked out in our colors and insignia on a permanent basis!

    1. I agree with you fully on this one. Even though I understood the historical and financial logic behind the continual idea of sharing a new stadium with Inter, I as a Milan fan never liked sharing a stadium with them and never will. Milan needs it’s own fortress.

    2. Actually Bayern Munich use to share Allianz Arena with another TSV 1860 until 2005. Roma & Lazio still share, as well as PSG & Paris FC. But i prefer we do not share with Inter as well.
