GdS: Milan’s next coach will be Italian – Coppa Italia final nemesis on the list

After losing the Coppa Italia, AC Milan are almost definitely going to be looking for a new head coach this summer.

There are several names that have been linked to the job so far, but it has almost been a case of self elimination with a number of candidates either unreasonable or uninterested. So, Gazzetta dello Sport have given a rundown of the list, with Sérgio Conceição’s future as good as decided.

It starts with Carlo Ancelotti and Cesc Fabregas, the latter of which was certainly more than a hypothetical than the return of Don Carlo. In both situations there is no chance of arrival with Ancelotti heading to be the Brazilian National Team head coach, whilst the Spaniard has turned down the job (and others, in fairness) in favour of staying with Como.

So, a list of six turns to four, made up of: Maurizio Sarri, Roberto De Zerbi, Massimiliano Allegri and finally, the Coppa Italia champion Vincenzo Italiano.

From that list, you would imagine only two are feasible currently, and those are Sarri and Allegri – both are out of work and have been linked heavily. De Zerbi has just qualified for the Champions League with Marseille, whilst Italiano obviously is being hailed as a God in Bologna.

It would be ambitious if a move for either of the two were to be made, but without a sporting director, would anyone risk buying into the project as it currently is? We’ll have to see.

  1. Let’s have an Italian coach, so the fans and the media will be pleased.
Cardinale, Furlani, Moncada and Ibrahimović won’t be criticized again, since the coach will be Italian which is all what we’ve been asking for.
We might miss the UCL again, but that’s fine since the coach will be Italian, which is all we needed.
We might still have players unfit for any system, but again not problem since the coach will be Italian.

    1. Indeed, this is the third coach within a year. Buying the right players and selling the unfit ones is much more important than finding another coach.

      1. I’m not sure about that. The CI final showed that the coach makes a huge impact. There were no patterns of play. No quick progressive passing triangles. Just repeated desperate long ball attempts. And wingers stranded on an island, alone, to take on an entire defense nearly singlehandedly. While teams with much worse players than Milan were able to quickly progress the ball on the counter using 1-touch passing to the space they knew their colleague would soon occupy, shaming Milan not just in the final but in many of the preceding matches this year. That is on the coach.

        1. Yes, the coach has many faults, but the fact that with 3 coaches these players have had the same issues means that the main fault goes to the team. Milan’s defenders have been making error after error and no coach can fix that. Milan’s midfielders are not capable of proper defending, balancing and setting the rhythm of the game. Many players are clearly not motivated in crucial games. Why this season these players always show up vs Inter and won vs RM, but almost always play unconvincing games vs mid- and botton table teams? Many of these players just don’t want to win trophies, they are not hungry enough. These issues are much more important that the name of the coach.

          1. I respect your opinion but I don’t think it’s Milan showing up when they play Inter rather I think it’s Inter not showing up when they play Milan. If the real Inter played Milan in all those games we all know how that would’ve gone. Watch the matches again and see all the missed chances by Inter. And now they think an Italian coach is gonna fix the problem. Allegri may come in and win but we all know he won’t play beautiful football. The last time Sarri played beautiful football was with Napoli and that was after two years of training that team. You may win all you want but at some point the fans will get used to winning and start demanding beautiful football. It’s like Pioli who made us dream again and was a victim of his own success. If they want to gamble on a coach then my preference would be Xavi Hernandez. With him you can be sure the youngsters will get play time and you can at least watch something close to beautiful football.

  2. Turning clock backward we are set when Fonseca was here and what then

    We bring Conceicao and Felix

    Ok

Funds for Conceicao and Felix or for already Sottil and Fonseca – exactly same

Is Conceicao doing in ACM something special?

    You read it right

    1. At point where we are was moment that f
fonseca is out losing coppa Italia …. Am thinking of this almost sure everything remains as this. : losing matches vs Bayer and vs Fio and now vs Ata and Blu … These four are to coaches IMO was not to squad but you learned something after all?

        1. Been a fan before you ever heard of ACM and watchin when gullit basten made match on one side only, Savicevuc made same only himself. So be AC Milan or get joke with yoyrself

  3. Only De Zerbi on that list has a chance of being an upgrade. The rest is just latteral moves, so that the management can put all the blame on the coach. Again.

  4. Italiano after that win will not leave bologna, and if he does I wouldn’t want him because that’s a rash decision of an insane man. De zerbi is the only option that would be anything but bad…both Allegri and Sarri are terrible choices. I’m starting to really hate this club and forget why I ever loved it

  5. Main problem of AC Milan is the management and owner who dont have ambition to win, dont know how to run a club to success, they are just a group of people to make money

  6. Until that rat combined with a snake called furlani is kicked on his arse and sent away, milan can never hope to recover from this hell.

  7. Being Italian is irrelevant. It’s more about Serie A experience and success. That is a plus, but many other aspects need to be considered:
1-Does he have a clear system of play?
2-Does it suit our current squad?
3-Does it provide a pathway to integrate our Primavera/Futuro stars?
4-Will he be supported by the management, will he get the players he wants?
    5-Will he be given time?
I don’t have a problem with any of the coaches mentioned but why would Italiano or Gasperini join this current mess when they have functional teams, in a better position than us, and winning trophies?
Sarri and Allegri are solid but don’t seem like long-term solutions. De Zerbi, as a Milan fan, could be tempted despite qualifying for the Champions League with Marseille, provided he is given the time to build the team in his vision. It’ll be interesting to see which direction we go

  8. An Italian coach will solve NOTHING!!!

I think Milan should look towards Germany. They have a positive footballing philosophy and know how to properly cultivate young players.

We need real courage at the helm of Milan and we won’t find that in Italy currently…
