AC Milan on course for Champions League return: The pot they would be in currently

It seems that AC Milan are heading back into the Champions League at the end of the season, and projections for their group have been revealed.

Unless Milan experience a nightmarish end to the season, they will be playing European football again next season. If things continue at their current rate, they will return to the Champions League too, after a year’s absence.

This was Massimiliano Allegri’s goal at the start of the season and it has remained the case throughout. Indeed, the Italian has driven home the fact that his team need to be within the top four at the end of May.

They are certainly on track to do so, but with some tough games coming up, they are not safe yet.

Milan’s return to the Champions League

As @FootRankings tweeted on X, the projected groups for the Champions League are being worked out, which can be seen below.

These initial projections would put the Rossoneri in Pot 3, alongside Napoli from Serie A and it seems unlikely that this position will change. The groups are worked out on coefficient points, where the Diavolo are 5,000 points away from Pot 2.

So, barring any major shocks, it is the third pot that you need to be keeping an eye on during the draw.

      1. It still does, not as much as before obviously.
But kinda reversed – it’s more important for opponents if strong club has a low coefficient.
All comes down to the draw anyway. We (or any other club) want the weakest teams and avoid the strongest.
        Example – pot 4 – avoid Stutgart, pot 2 – draw Brugge

    1. Europa league gives same points as CL, so their final vs Tottenham 2 years ago is the sole reason for them being in top 100.
