The injury sustained by Rade Krunic has accelerated AC Milan’s pursuit of a new midfielder with several names being evaluated, plus potentially some regrets.
MilanNews writes that Sandro Tonali and Ismael Bennacer cannot be exclusively relied upon in what is a very hectic fixture schedule, given that Tommaso Pobega is not yet back at 100%, Tiemoue Bakayoko is outside of the plans and Krunic could miss over a month with his muscle issue.
The management are aware that there is the dual task this season of competing to retain the Scudetto and to go further in the Champions League, with less than a fortnight remaining in the transfer window.
The report mentions three names as being targets: Raphael Onyedika of FC Midtjylland, Aster Vranckx of Wolfsburg and Jean Onana of Bordeaux, but it is possible that another name that may come up.
In hindsight, MilanNews suggest there was an error in the decision to wait for Renato Sanches who in the end made it clear he only wanting PSG. That meant Maldini and Massara did not pursue a deal for Enzo Fernandez despite initiating contacts, and now he is starring for Benfica.
Yacine Adli is there too.
Unlikely to do much for the defensive side though. Maybe he could be trained to do so, like Sanches was.
He can defend well enough. Pair him up with Bennacer and the level of our attacks will rise exponentially.

If they’d bought Fernandez they presumably wouldn’t have the funding for CdK so no point pretending one stymied the other, seeing as Benfica paid 10m up front with ~8m in bonuses and a sell on clause.
Very unlikely Milan manages to get rid of Bakayoko. He would sit another season on the bench, collecting money without playing. Pioli can’t play him because after a certain number of games his loan becomes permanent move and Milan will have to pay Chelsea around 20 mil.
If money is tight, Milan should maybe sell Pobega to finance a new midfielder signing. Pobega can’t play in Milan’s system. He is too slow and too stiff to play in double pivot.
We currently have only 2 midfielders worth a damn, the rest , Krunic is injured, Bakayoko is useless, Pobega isn’t it.
Maldini needs to hurry up, because we are not far away from watching Calabria in double pivot
I have thought of this as well….Pobega should be sold if is not fit for our system. Our problem is we just like to hype some players…..I don’t see anything special about him…Time is running out..

Bring in Zyech (or anybody else) on the right hand side. Messias is a ghost. SaladMaker is far better but not up to standard. To my mind, this is the priority #1.

The midfeild is empty, pobega and bakayoko can not offer what is needed in this team, now Milan are targeting expensive mediocre players for the midfeild, we played ourselves, we outsmarted our own self, we had the opportunity to close a deal of 14m for a good midfeilder but we stupidly and Stingly refused to pay him what he is worth, he is now scoring for PSG……now we are going to pay ridiculous money for low class midfeilders who we do not even know what they bring to the table……we are now offering benaceer 3m and refusing to increase it, we will soon lose him and Leao, then we will look for a serie b wonder kid to replace them…….banter era IS calling back
Those who understand football saw this coming, but because we somehow won the league, many got carried away, people just celebrate the progress, they fail to analyse the process.
Some even bashed me here, they claimed we don’t need any signings, that the team won the league against all odds.
Let’s not get carried away, some of us knew very well that it will be more difficult for to defend our title this season.
