AC Milan have not placed the highest bid to sign Sven Botman from Lille in the summer despite him being the top target, a report claims.
Speaking about the Champions League match between Chelsea and Lille, La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) focused on three of the players from the Ligue 1 club that Milan are big admirers of, including Renato Sanches and Jonathan David.
At the top of Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara’s wish list for the summer is 22-year-old defender Sven Botman, and the paper claims that the Rossoneri have offered €30m for the young Dutchman.
However, they face the same competition as they did during the summer because Newcastle United – another team interested in the player – have put in a bid worth €35m. Whether the player’s will could be key in negotiations or if Lille might simply opt to sell to the highest bidder remains to be seen.
If he only cares about the money and wants to downgrade, playing for PL relegation fodder, then he we really don’t need him or his kind.

If we manage to sign him and Sanches, i don’t think there will be any budget left for AMC, RW and SC..prefer to extend Romagnoli since the difference of demand and offer is not too much and use that money for Sanches and 1 attacking player with x factor like Berardi
Of course Newcastle will outbid us. Hopefully Botman isnt going after the money.
I don’t understand how it makes sense to spend 30/35m on him, plus his wages, rather than give our Captain Romagnioli a million more each season?
Because Romagnoli hasn’t grown since he signed for Milan. Plus he is is the only captain and substitute in the entire world. The only reason he is playing now is because Kjaer is injured. His captaincy should have been removed long ago.
If we’re being blunt, he is not worth what he is asking and he is not gonna grow as a player either.
And if we’re being even more blunt, he is sh*t and Milan outgrew him, just like Casti.
Because romagnoli isn’t good enough against tougher faster, and taller opponent.
Because:
a) he’ll be on a lower actual wage (and because of Italian tax laws it’s about 2x the wage cost to Milan for AR) – the big thing here is that a high wage makes it much harder to sell him on
b) Botman has potential to grow in value on the books and become a saleable asset – if he’s in Milan for 2 years and sold to a team for €50m, that’s a huge net gain. See Tomori’s current value on the books – he’s worth more than was paid for him
c) Romangoli earns more than guaranteed starters like Hernandez, Tonali, Tomori, Leao… that’s not a good look for trying to renew other younger players. Effectively it’s a huge premium paid for experience.
I’m not saying it’s worth signing him at all costs – I think there’s probably better value out there – but that’s why there’s a pro and con to both
R, he is asking for 3.5 net, which is 2m less than the current 5.5m. It will also mean that he will make LESS than Hernandez, Tomori, Leao, etc. Milan needs a young striker that can score AND play games more than they need anything else as Ibra lives in the medical center. So it would be more cost effective to dump Ibra’s 7m salary and sign a young striker for 30-40m who’s value could balloon to 70-80m (since attackers are always more valuable than defenders), than it would to dump Romagnoli and sign Botman. We also need a proper RW. I honestly think CB can wait until 2023.
Besides Romagnoli, we expect Kjaer back next year and with Tomori/Kjaer and surprisingly capable Kalulu, I do think it would be smarter to spend money on improving the attack — a star striker like Alexander Isak (Ibra and Giroud are old); an attacking RW like Berardi; a better CAM to replace Diaz. We can make the biggest jump/improvement in those positions. The difference from Kjaer/Tomori to Botman/Tomori is not huge; but the difference in those other 3 attacking position could be much bigger and better improvement.
It is his decision. Let’s just wait till summer . Even he choose Newcastle ,we can still go for bremer and offer krunic to Torino ). For romagnoli i don’t think he Will renew and probably go to Lazio or rubentus. Either one of this botman or bremer will join US next season. Both are good and better than romagnoli
