MN: Milan penalised after ‘moving late again’ – why they are already behind in ‘managerial waltz’

Sergio Conceicao is expected to leave AC Milan. However, the Portuguese’s future is still unclear, despite months of speculation.

By all accounts, the Conceicao era at Milan will end this summer, with all parties seemingly looking for a new start. However, we are still no closer to an actual understanding of the future, with Igli Tare reportedly considering talks with the coach.

Logically, these would take place this week, whilst the managerial market is also assessed. But it seems that even then, time is being pushed.

As Milan News write, this summer, there could once again be a head coach reshuffle in Serie A, with Milan and Roma definitely seeking new coaches. However, Inter, Juventus, Napoli, Atalanta and Lazio could each seek new ideas.

Despite each of these clubs having a coach already, it seems the Rossoneri would be behind them in the search for a replacement. The reason why? Because, yet again, the Diavolo moved late in the race, just as they did last summer.

After the season collapsed, there was plenty of time to recalculate the future, with or without Conceicao. Instead, though, the club saw out the season with Conceicao, despite months of what ifs.

Just as was the case with Paulo Fonseca, it seems Milan may, again, be forced to go for someone away from the ‘elite’ due to their own timing.

  1. Mark my words. If the start of next season the squad doesn’t perform as expected, if we’re lucky maybe up to mid season, Furlani for sure will put pressure and the blame on Tare. After delaying precious time the guy ended up settling down with Tare. Now Tare is rushed to do everything while we had all the time in the world for Tare for him to do his work if he could just straight away apoint Tare at the first place.
    That damn accountant.

  2. Conte seems to have second thoughts about leaving Napoli, so there might be room for Milan to get Allegri if Tare is fast enough (and Gerry offers more money than ADL).

    1. I don’t understand why Conte would go back to Juventus. He will always be compared to his first stand there, he’s not gonna win immediately, and he’s going to have to juggle two competition competitions, which he has not been great at.

At Milan, he would have one competition to worry about, with the possibility of another Scudetto with a fourth club and bring in the second star to the club.

Maybe he even lowers his economic requests to facilitate this since it’s a win/win for everyone involved. But its up to Milan to get of their *** to put it into motion.

      1. Conte would likely want to win the 2nd star with Milan, but he is not a cheap guy. He demands big investments in the mercato. That is why he left Juve, Inter and that will be the reason if he leaves Napoli as well. Is Gerry ready to spend more on the mercato than ADL and Juve? I highly doubt that.
Plus Conte does not like the management to interfere much with his work. Can Furlani and Ibra stay away from that? Not sure about that as well tbh.

      2. IMO it is better for Milan to push for Allegri ASAP. Yes, his football is boring and will hardly win Milan the 2nd star, but better him than Sergio or some other unproven gamble. At least he can get Milan a top 4 spot.

      3. Easy. Conte doesn’t wanna deal with these clowns and the toxic environment. He is a coach that demands freedom. While that’s hard to achieve at any club ( hence the fact that he never stayed in one club for too long) milan is by far the worst. Too many hands in the cookie jar.

  3. Being honest, there’s a pecking order here.

Juve and Napoli jobs at the top of the pile. If Conte stays, then Allegri is fair game. If he doesn’t, expect Max at Napoli and Conte at Juve.

Roma have agreed a deal with a new coach already, we’ll have to see who that is, but that will take one name out of the equation.

Atalanta are a well run team in the UCL. I don’t expect Gasperini to leave, but if he does that’s a tough job for anyone.

Then there’s us. At the moment, there’s an argument that the above jobs are all more attractive. There’s another argument that only the Juve and possibly Napoli ones are… although I think Roma are spending more and in a more attractive place for the immediate future.

So, unless we go properly left-field and look abroad, then we might have to wait until those dominoes have fallen. That’s just the reality of where we are.

  4. I would say Motta, Xavi or Sarri… realistically these are our only options.

Motta – communication issues, quite stubborn, lacks courage. other than that an amazing tactician.
(Juve lost points due to draws. They barely ever lost the entire season. If you half those draws, they would have had 12-14 extra points…)

Xavi – underrated for what he did at Barca. I think he is our best option atm.

Sarri – Lazio was a disaster (not ideal environment for Sarri but still), also stubborn and doesn’t give much chance to youngsters. he and motta are more or less the same level of risk in my opinion

  5. Penalized how?…. italiano.. not top flight club coach IMO, allegri.. meh time has passed him long ago… Conte is juve.. only club he can last more than 1 year.

  6. Why the hurry? Wait half more season to appoint the head coach. Take your time Milan management, we know you are all busy.

  7. Conte wouldn’t go to juve coz Tudor have a clause that if juve qualify champion league, he will extended the contract. Remember, Tudor and conte have juventus DNA. His beloved club. I think milan will end up with allegri or stay with conceicao with another project.

  8. Id stick with the current coach before taking another mid tier one who hasn’t won anything anywhere.

He can adapt to Italy and the players on our roster with more time to prepare.

There is no more time to waste going for a new coach. Get the next market up and running. Sign the renewals. With a summer rest, full training camp and no Europe, our team will be better. We can wait for better long term options to come forward next year when we actually have resources to invest in the team that can make a significant difference.
