Director and coach confusion: Milan’s planning for 2025-26 as clear as mud

For AC Milan, planning ahead of the 2025-26 season is of paramount importance and time is of the essence. The leadership do not seem to realise that.

It has not been a positive campaign for Milan especially in Serie A, where they sit ninth in the league with the chances of a top four spot having vanished weeks ago. They were also knocked out in the Champions League by Feyenoord.

That should make it pretty easy to decide on big changes to help the club move forward, but they have not been forthcoming. The whole situation has caused some instability in the team, which has also led to Milan becoming increasingly the underdog in some bets. Director confusion

Fabio Paratici appeared all set to become the new director of the Rossoneri, but when the negotiations to define his appointment were at an advanced stage, things came crashing to a halt.

The reasons for the collapse in talks have been debated. Some stated things took a negative turn when they learned about his limited operability, while there was talk of pressure from Italian football’s governing body, the FIGC.

However, a report from Calciomercato.com then claimed on Tuesday 29 April that there was in fact a new video call between Paratici and Cardinale, the RedBird Capital founder and Milan owner. It is defined as a ‘new exploratory contact for a path that could reopen’.

Radio Rossonera added that on Easter Monday, Cardinale met Fabio Paratici on Lake Como. The presence of other figures is not excluded, but the presence of those two is certain. Now, we wait for further updates on a never-ending saga.

Head coach conveyor belt

Milan have had three head coaches in the past 12 months, with the end of Stefano Pioli’s tenure then followed by the hiring of Paulo Fonseca, who was sacked at the end of December and replaced by Sergio Conceicao.

Conceicao could win his second trophy in just a few months if Milan are victorious in the Coppa Italia final, which would surely be enough to make the management consider keeping him. And yet, what emerges is that the Portuguese is actually likely to walk away regardless.

Thus, the most likely scenario remains a change in manager and there are several names circulating. Among the candidates to replace Conceiçao are Massimiliano Allegri and Maurizio Sarri, who are without a club.

Then there are those that the directors like such as Vincenzo Italiano and Cesc Fabregas, as well as Roberto De Zerbi and Antonio Conte. The issue? They all have clubs and things to fight for. The one message seems to be the desire for an Italian revolution, but the rest is as clear as mud.
