Unione Sarda: Milan watch on as youth product shines for Cagliari and his value rockets

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are watching the development of Raoul Bellanova at Cagliari wondering what might have been as the defender goes from strength to strength.

Bellanova started his youth career at age 4 as he played for Azzurra and then went to FC Parabiago a year later, before Milan decided to sign him in 2006. His time with the Rossoneri’s youth sector would last all the way until 2019 by which time he was 19 years of age.

After failing to negotiate a professional contract from Milan, he decided to make the switch to Ligue 1 side Bordeaux instead with whom he signed a deal until June 2023. He made his debut for them in August 2019 which was also his debut in senior football, then in January 2020 he joined Atalanta on a one and a half year loan with an option to buy.

He then moved on from Atalanta to Serie B club Pescara on loan, and back in August 2021 he joined Cagliari on loan with an option to buy. As Unione Sarda (via MilanNews) writes this morning, Cagliari are not regretting their decision to take a chance on him.

The growth of the 21-year-old is there for all to see and at the end of the season the Sardinian club will be able to buy him for just €500k, but his value has grown exponentially to at least €10m.
