Watch: Manganiello makes two big calls during Milan-Sassuolo including Raspadori’s nasty challenge

By Oliver Fisher -

There were a couple of big decisions for the referee Manganiello to make during today’s game between AC Milan and Sassuolo.

The first incident was in the closing stages of the first half as Raspadori went through Bennacer and connected high up on his shin. The incident can be seen on the video below, and it certainly appears as though it should have been a red card for endangering an opponent given Bennacer’s leg was planted and he goes in with studs, even though he does attempt to pull out of it after making contact.

Referee Gianluca Manganiello only showed a yellow card and VAR did not intervene because they clearly deemed it to not be a clear and obvious error. Those with good memories will recall Tonali getting a red via VAR in a game against Benevento, which was certainly not as bad as this one.

Then the other controversial incident was when Alessio Romagnoli was given a straight red for hauling down Defrel. In this case the decision was more easy to understand because the Milan captain denied an obvious goal-scoring opportunity and it was also a last-man foul.

  1. You Wright man, it is just excuses.
When you played to win, the your weapons ( players) available define how you control the game with the ball or with out the ball but always in control of the field. We had players on top but never but never dictating with the ball space, movement, never sending dangerous crosses & to many selfish players. But isn’t there fault, it is the cause he put them on.
