The season can only get better from here for AC Milan… right? After an opening day defeat to Cremonese, it needs to be.
A new season should have marked something to celebrate, but Milan are left with a bitter feeling of sameness. New coach, new sporting director, new players, but the same mistakes were ever so apparent.

Then, there was also the issue of the same players struggling to make an impact…
The ratings
As seen below, Gazzetta dello Sport have published their morning edition with the ratings of the Rossoneri players after the first game.
The Rossoneri, as a whole, were given a 5, which is maybe a little generous, all things considered. Whilst Massimiliano Allegri was also given the same rating, not the start to his San Siro return that he wanted.
Luka Modric scored the highest, getting a 6.5 on his Serie A debut. Despite his age, he looked a class above, and when he was taken off, there was a small hole in the midfield. A solid start, though, from him.
Mike Maignan was awarded a 6, the Frenchman did not do that much, so it is not undeserved. With that said, the 6s for Pervis Estupinan and Strahinja Pavlovic could certainly be scrutinised; both made a few mistakes, which could have been costly.
Matteo Gabbia, Alexis Saelemaekers, Alex Jimenez, Samuele Chukwueze and Ardon Jashari were all given a 5.5, doing nothing of major notice. Then Fikayo Tomori, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Youssouf Fofana and Christian Pulisic were all given a 5.
Rounding it off, Santiago Gimenez scored a 4.5. It was far from the Mexican’s best performance, and the Feyenoord striker looks miles away from the man present in the Rossoneri. Calls for a new striker have only been made louder. Less than ideal.

Here we go again just the same old shit the players we’ve have are not good enough as I said last season conte should have been brought in long ago.
I don’t understand why Gimenez was given that mark. How many passes did he receive from our players? Almost none. And he run everywhere. If we don’t improve in the midfield it won’t change anything. With owful players like Fofana and Loftus Cheek, nothing is going to happen. And I don’t understand why Allegri couldn’t replaced them with Ricchi earlier!
This is not even a striker problem, if they’re not fed well from the mid field no how can they score goals. The position isn’t good for Gimenez, he’s a striker not a winger to be so athletic. He ran so much but yet no good pass.
Coach should change the the playing formation.
This players are still playing with so much uncertainty. They need to free themselves from the cage. They can do better with the set of team.
I am wondering how fofana and loftus-cheek get 5 in rating I think they deserve only 3.5
The defenders rating make no sense. Tomori and Gabbia may have not done anything spectacular, but what exactly lowers their rating? Even Gazzetta is getting random at this, pretty sure sometimes they don’t watch the games and trust stats websites to do the individual rating article.
A most disappointing outing. Clearly nothing has changed. The midfield failed to connect with attack, if there’s was any. Again, Fofana’s shots were off mark. They couldn’t fight and wins balls. I’m afraid last season might end up being better if they continue like this.
Allegri you have to open your mind change this rubbish formation which you are using to go back with 433, and bench this useless midfield fofana and loftus-cheek to use our new players but if you refuse you will regret it in only 6 months
First it was Musah and Emerson Royale, then its Cardinale, then furlani, then Ibra…now its RLC and Fofana? who’s next? the waterboy?
First it was Krunic and Pioli… but to me it’s entirely Allegri right now. He has his idea of heavily pushing RLC and Fofana and he follows through even when things are not going in the right direction. He wants Rafa and Puli as attacking duo, though Rafa’s main advantage is his speed and dribble on the flank and Puli is not feeling comfortable there. Idk, we need to give the coach time, but objectively he had the worst performance last night.
