CM: Milan remain interested in Real Madrid forward and could try sign him on a free

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan were heavily linked with a move for Marco Asensio earlier in the summer and their pursuit of him may not be over yet, a report claims.

As Calciomercato.com report, Asensio in the end decided to remain at Real Madrid but he will not renew his contract expiring in 2023, which therefore means he is accepting it will be a final campaign in the Spanish capital before he moves on.

The Spanish forward is a player that is still very much admired by Milan’s technical director Paolo Maldini for his experience, quality and his versatility, so much so that the Rossoneri could throw their hats in the ring to land him on a free transfer ahead of 2023-24.

Last season, the 26-year-old made 42 appearances with 12 goals and 2 assists. In total, Asensio played 2,110 minutes and it must be seen how the situation develops in the current campaign with regards to his playing time and position in the hierarchy under Ancelotti.

  1. Sure, Milan are going to outbid a load of desperate English clubs. Personally, I think he’d be good as a hard-working winger, but I don’t see it happening.

  2. The salary has always been an issue, not so much the transfer fee.
He isn’t coming to Milan for 3.5 or 4 mil a year.
I would like for Milan to sign him but I don’t expect it. He will get way higher offer elsewhere.
Milan will be looking for someone who hasn’t exploded yet on the football scene

  3. He will coming to EPL club that can give him 8m nett euro or more higher. But dont worry ,remember isco & james rodrigues? Both asking high salary but in the end get lower than their asking after free transfer. Too bad we dont sign kvara for RW,his price only 10m euro before napoli buy him

  4. Agree with all the other comments, great to have but we will be comprehensively outbid on wages by probably any Prem team that may be half interested.

  5. 100% agree… everyone is on the same page. Yes, it would be great to get him. There’s certainly good reason for Maldini to like many things about his game (and the fact that our RW position is so weak — we will see if Dest plays there over Saele/Messias more than he plays at RB?); but the salary demands will likely be too high.

Our only real hope of being able to afford him is if we somehow not only get out of group stages of CL but also make a deep run in knockout phases — each round pays more money and if we can somehow get lucky and get good draws against weakest teams that get to knockout phases and make for example semifinals — that will be a lot of unexpected revenue for the club… only in that scenario to do I see Milan having enough money to go after Asensio’s demands.
