GdS: Mendes talks and Lille’s situation mean Milan could land Renato Sanches this summer

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are working on the signing of Franck Kessie’s heir and they have identified Renato Sanches as an ideal profile, a report claims.

La Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting that the Rossoneri’s interest in Sanches has emerged and intensified in recent months when it became more obvious that they might have to strengthen the midfield, and the Portuguese international already has quite a story.

After exploding at Benfica in 2016 he got a move to Bayern Munich for €35m (plus €10m in bonuses) at the age of just 19 but it did not work out. In 2019 he went to Lille and things have clicked for him there as he has re-established himself as a top midfielder while still only 24.

His agent Jorge Mendes is in contact with Maldini while talking about Rafael Leao’s renewal, and the conversation often drifts to Sanches whose contract is expiring in 18 months with no news of a renewal on the horizon. For this reason Milan could take advantage of the situation, aiming for a favourable price.

It must be noted that Premier League and Bundesliga clubs have already come forward for the former Swansea loanee, but previous experiences do not encourage Sanches to go back there which is why the idea of a move to Italy is taking shape.
