GdS: Milan resume talks over extension of midfielder – agreement not far off

AC Milan have held new talks with the entourage of Ismael Bennacer over the extension of his contract, according to a report.

According to what La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) are reporting this morning, the contacts and dialogues between Milan and the entourage of Bennacer for the renewal of the Algerian’s contract have resumed.

The current agreement between the Rossoneri and the former Empoli star expires in 2024 and this upcoming season he will undoubtedly be a key part of the midfield rotations alongside Sandro Tonali, so a new deal and a pay rise could well be in order with an agreement not far off.

Last month, Calciomercato.com reported that Milan have been in negotiations with Bennacer’s entourage over the extension of his current contract and a draft agreement was even found over the terms of the extension, but the player has asked for time to understand RedBird Capital’s project and thus talks were put on hold.

2nd Feb 22: “Ismael Bennacer is … reportedly ready to pen fresh terms”

Obviously there are a hundred more articles with the same story from the last 6 months.

Will believe it when I see a pen in his hand.

    1. Yes, in February, he was set to extend his contract. It would see his salary rise from €1.5m to €3.5m.

But, with the new ownership lurking around, Bennacer’s entourage blocked negotiations, maybe because they think they can get a better deal with more earnings. Also, we just won the league, maybe a compensation, or a pay rise to that effect.

  2. With the rumored arrival of Renato Sanches and the presence of Adli Pobega and Krunic, don’t be surprised if Bennacer gets sold by the end of this transfer window.
He has prolonged this renewal for too long even though he is offered more than double salary hike.
He hasn’t been viewed as a starter by Pioli who preferred Tonali, Kessie and even Krunic over him. Towards the end of the season when Pioli played with 3 DMs , he used Krunic not Bennacer.

    1. To be fair if we sell him for around 40 million I won’t be complaining (reportedly arsenal are offering 34 million for him)

      1. Arsenal had a chance to match Milan’s offer in 2019 when he was moving from Empoli but they were not interested at all. I doubt they wanna buy him now because to be honest he hasn’t improved much in these past 3 years at Milan. He looked great for 4,5 months after the covid break but since he got injured vs Parma in December of 2020 he has regressed as a player.
I had high hopes for him but he hasn’t lived up to it, plus he hasn’t been much more reliable with his fitness than Renato Sanches. Bennacer also has missed a bunch of games because of muscle injuries
