Antonio Conte and Alessandro Buongiorno, two of the Rossoneri’s big targets, went to Napoli and won the Scudetto. Joshua Zirkzee, even if he flopped, went to Manchester United, and in return, Alvaro Morata arrived at San Siro – he arguably did just as badly, though, looking back at it.
Everything fuelled the anger at the internal state of the Diavolo. Through the season, things again followed the same pattern. Problems were identified too late to fix properly, and the attempted fixes were deployed too late.
Take the appointment of Sergio Conceicao and the January mercato, for example. The head coach probably arrived too late to make a real change, whilst the mid-season signings had little chance to impact a failure of a season.
Now, though, the club are looking to operate differently, it seems. Kinda.
Hiring Igli Tare took long enough, but since then, it has been action, action, action, with Milan re-hiring Massimiliano Allegri before anyone else had the chance to actually attempt a move. In fact, the club got him to go against his word to Napoli to bring him back home.
Tijjani Reijnders may be heading towards an exit, but Tare and Allegri have already identified Luka Modric as a starter to replace him and others who have left in recent years – we are speaking of Olivier Giroud and Simon Kjaer here.

Of course, there has been a lot about the future of the other stars, too. Mike Maignan and Theo Hernandez both seem likely to leave. However, the Rossoneri are not waiting to take action. No, they are laying the groundwork now.
In goal, the club have already identified four targets to replace Maignan, whilst at left-back, there are planned investments waiting for moves to occur. Samuele Ricci also, finally, seems like he will head to San Siro.
It does not cure the disease of this season, no, nothing could. However, the antidote to its replication is already in production.
