Reports: Romagnoli contract talks stall as Milan want to halve his salary – Juventus at the window

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan centre-back Alessio Romagnoli has not yet renewed his contract which has got Juventus sensing an opportunity, a report claims.

Just as happened last year when Gianluigi Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu began to wind their contract down into the final six months, Franck Kessie and Alessio Romagnoli are the two this year who are heading towards leaving Milan on a free transfer, with the former having arrived in 2017 and the latter back in 2015.

According to this morning’s edition of Il Giornale (via MilanNews), Romagnoli would like to stay at Milan where he is happy and is the club captain, but for the moment there is no agreement between the parties on the salary he would receive to extend.

Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara have put forward a four-year extension with a salary almost halved compared to the current €6m net per season so the negotiation is now stalled, with Juventus remaining at the window in the event he decides to leave.

La Gazzetta dello Sport also confirm that Juve boss Max Allegri is a fan of Romagnoli as they picked out 50 reasons that Milan’s game against the Bianconeri on Sunday should be fascinating.

  1. cmon AC Milan, lets not give Juve Romagnoli for free. We spent 25 mill for him if I remember correctly and he is willing to reduce his wages to extend his stay. He is in his prime years. The cost of not renewing him is to great. We should be focusing on other positions this coming summer such as Attacking Midfielder to alternate with Brahim, Kessie replacement and Striker

  2. Idiots… keep losing players for free. He’s not even demanding a ridiculous salary like Kessie we’re just being cheap here. So we’d rather pay 25-30m for a new defender plus their salary rather than renewing Romagnoli’s? So ridiculous.

  3. Please just give him something decent. Hes one of the few players still committed to Milan. And he is not a bad defender at all.

  4. So what at all is wrong with Milan. When are we going to stop this lifestyle?
Your captain is also likely to leave for free and it seems normal. He is willing to slash his salary and yet you people are not willing to pay him,Wow.
How I wish all the best players would stay to make Milan stronger but we are just thinking of the money. Just give him what he wants and let’s move on.

  5. while Giroud that was meant to come on a free, signed again with chelsea & we had to part with about 2m to get & his yearly salary is 4m, with efforts that cannot be compared to Romagnioli’s, this maldini & massara are about the most inexperienced guys, even I would prefer we sign Kessie at 9m wages for 2yrs & put him up for sale in summer for good money. we would get to regain part of his wages
