Youssouf Fofana has made a big impact since arriving at AC Milan in the summer, but the worry of the management is that his workload is too high.
As Corriere dello Sport (via MilanNews) recall, Fofana joined Milan are a long negotiation with Monaco, plus an interrupted preseason due to the discussions between the clubs and the fact France went deep in the European Championships in Germany.
However, the Frenchman took just a few games to get into shape and is now an immovable part of Paulo Fonseca’s midfield plans. Since the departures of Franck Kessie and Sandro Tonali, the Rossoneri have not had a midfielder with his defensive characteristics.
He immediately struck excellent chemistry with Tijjani Reijnders, adding balance to the creativity of the Dutchman with his work in the non-possession phase. The issue is that he has now started 14 games in a row, and in 10 of them he played the full 90 minutes.
Fonseca cannot ask him to maintain this pace for the entire course of the season and he must be helped to recharge his batteries, which is why the January transfer window could bring a helping hand.
The paper states that Reda Belahyane of Verona is one target, but he is unlikely to be allowed to leave in the middle of the season. The same goes for the Morten Frendrup of Genoa, even if a €15m bid could make them change their mind.
Frendrup is better, bigger, stronger, more solid…
We don’t need Terracianno 2.0
God forbids if Fofona gets injured. We should have thought about a contingent measure long time ago.
They spent roughly 90 million on midfield and from that wasted at least 40 if I exclude Reijnders and Fofana. And they’re still in need of reinforcements there.
Overall Pulisic, Reijnders, Fofana and Morata are the only ones worth a mention from Moncada’s two summer spending sprees. They together cost about 75 millions. There were players like Amrabat and Hjulmand available for loan and on cheap so they could form a compact team without selling Tonali.
They could even get Retegui for 12 millions instead of Jovic and now Abraham who both seem to be waste of space and money.
Emerson for 15 millions instead of Di Lorenzo for 5 more and Spinazzola for free to have a quality cover for Theo, who btw seem to be injuried.
Pavlović to replace Kalulu who was already mentioned MOTM on couple of occasions since moving to Juve. That was nothing else but a capital gain move. A move which is not paying off. Same as Tonali’s.
Maldini jr is being praised by many legendary coaches, players and present Italy coach Spaletti but we deem him surplus to requirements cause we have RLC in his place.
And you’re telling me Moncada is a genius in his field of expertise. Lmao what a clown show.
There’s no sporting director who will get every signing right but i agree Moncada has made some big misses and he has made some winners too but in reality he is just a scout and not an experienced Sporting Director who knows how to build a winning team.
Maldini signed Origi on a 3m contract for 4yrs when he was injured and not even a starter at Liverpool when we could have signed Kolo Muani on a free transfer or Alvarez for 15m.
As for Amrabat, that’s on Maldini as he was the one who choose to sign CDk instead of getting Dybala on a free transfer and using that CDK money to go for Amrabat on loan with option to buy.
What’s worse is that Maldini still to this day defended his actions on signing CDK and Origi which were 2 horrible decisions.
The problem is Milan need an experienced Sporting Director who knows how to build a winning team and not pass players like Maldini or Ibra who has no experience in that role.
As for Moncada, his contract is expiring next season and I have a feeling that he will be replaced as there is no talk of extending his contract.
Amrabat went to United on loan the summer RedBird sold Tonali and replace him with RLC and Musah while many of us here were begging for a proper DM like Amrabat. They also gave RLC 4 millions a season.
Retegui went to Genoa for 12 millions when RedBird signed Jovic on free the last day of mercato and Pioli had to rely on 38 year old Giroud whole season. Luckily he stayed fit.
Moncada spent 200 millions out of which 110 millions were wasted as it’s clear by now. Maldini’s been bad mouthed cause he signed CDK for 35 millions who had bad first season. Guess who else had a bad first season and a half? 38 million Leao.
Difference is, Maldini constructed a team that got us Scudetto in three years time since he took over and with much less money. Moncada is on his second year and after 200 millions spent, we’re here fighting for 4th spot.
you’re a hindsight warrior, Ted.
Zion is right. Milan is lacking a Sporting Director. not Maldini or Zlatan.
I did not mention Maldini in my original post, Zion did in his reply. So naturally I replied to him. Don’t be so biased, you saw Maldini and me and made a baseless connection. Read again.
