CM: Milan wanted to scout top target at World Cup but were left with little to go on

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan intended to take a closer look at one of their major attacking targets in action at the World Cup but they were left with little to go on.

According to a report from Calciomercato.com, Milan had Noah Okafor at the top of their list of targets to watch ahead of the tournament in Qatar and Switzerland’s passage into the knockout stages of the competition certainly provided the opportunity for the forward to get some good minutes.

However, the 22-year-old played 18 minutes off the bench in their 1-0 win over Cameroon to begin their Group G campaign, missing the Brazil defeat due to a muscle issue. Then, he played just one minute in the 3-2 victory against Serbia, and 24 minutes in last night’s 6-1 defeat against Portugal.

That means Milan were given a pretty small sample size to go on as Okafor either came on with leads to defend or with the game totally beyond the Swiss, and as a result he failed to register a goal or an assist.

  1. Scouting and international championships is never a good idea, anyways. The context, and the general (low) level of play does not give good enough indications on a players potential.

  2. Milan should pay more attention to Breel Embolo from Switzerland than Okafor. You don’t have to sign every player that scores against you.
There is nothing special about Okafor. He is another Jonathan David .
Embolo is very good as a n9, only 25 years old and cheaper than Okafor, who is a tweener. He is neither a 9 nor is a winger

    1. Totally agree. He stood out on the Swiss team. Great pace, good first touch, and I swear I saw him shrug off several defenders on multiple occasions. I think he would do well in Italy.

      1. Yep. He was bullying one of the best CBs in Europe Ruben Dias, who BTW should have received several yellow cards for fouls on Embolo, but somehow he got none

    2. Agree @ Pioli. Emboli is the player to watch. Has improved dramatically since the Euros. Big powerful fats and holds the ball well. Rather we target him than Okafor imo.
