GdS: Milan and Sevilla the early pacesetters in 2022 – the Rossoneri winning despite adversity

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have begun 2022 in the best possible way, having overcome a crisis due to Covid and injuries to record consecutive wins against Roma and Venezia.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) writes how – despite the many players Stefano Pioli has had to do without because of Covid, injuries and the African Cup of Nations – the Rossoneri have proven again to be stronger than the adversity they face, winning both games.

Not only that, but they were two clear and well-deserved wins that arrived with six goals scored and just one goal conceded despite a centre-back pairing of Pierre Kalulu and Matteo Gabbia. It is a path that among the big names in Europe only Sevilla have been able to follow, as the paper claims that they are the only two ‘top’ teams to have won both games in 2022.

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich for example lost to Getafe and Borussia Mönchengladbach respectively, while Barcelona and PSG drew against Granada and Lyon. Now, attention turns to the Coppa Italia as Genoa visit tomorrow, hoping to make it three from three.
