Athletic: Milan in talks over €20m Spurs defender but Nottingham Forest join the race

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan face competition in their pursuit of Spurs defender Japhet Tanganga as Nottingham Forest are interested in signing him, a report claims.

According to a report from The Athletic, Tanganga seems to be outside of Antonio Conte’s plans having not made an appearance for Spurs this season and there was the interest of AFC Bournemouth that emerged.

However, the idea of a move to Italy seems to be an option for Tanganga as Milan and Spurs still in talks over a possible deal, while Napoli were keen. Forest are the latest club to come forward and the London club have made it clear he is free to leave.

Spurs have been holding out for a fee of around €20m if they are to sell the 23-year-old and Forest are looking at a possible permanent deal, whereas Milan have thus far been chasing a loan with option to buy as per virtually every major source.

    1. Nottingham can’t afford him, but they’re throwing around money they don’t have to risk it all on staying in the Premier League. If they go down this year they’ll be in serious trouble. Of course the PL has absolutely no spending control pretty much so they can risk bankrupting the club all they like. They’re paying Lingard £10m (pre tax) this season, more than any Milan player is currently on.

      1. You are right, they are banking on staying in PL as long as they can.

A report from Deloitte states the Championship winner will earn additional revenues of at least £170m across the next three seasons. That sum rises significantly, to £300m across the next five campaigns, if the club avoids relegation in its first season back in the top-flight.

So its huge amount of money for them if they can stay in PL long enough. That is why they are manically spending money they don’t have.

      2. Nottingham can afford him because all EPL teams make a minimum of approximately 100/M POUNDS year bigger clubs make more based on how many televised games played etc…) from the television rights deal they have with the television networks. So every EPL club can outspend us unfortunately. Last season the last place team – Norwich made approx 100M pounds and Man City (the champions) made approx 150M pounds. You can read it here:

  1. Our negotiation tactics in a nutshell. We “admire” a player for 6 months to a year. Then we talk to the player and try to agree on the terms for about 6 months. Then we move to negotiating with the club, by either lowballing them, offering x10 less than players worth or asking for a loan with option to buy. Then we drag that for a few months, till PL or oil club shows up and swoops them up in a matter of days.

Granted, that tactic works one in ten to twenty times, but most of the time we end up looking like stingy, incompetent, broke dumbasses.

    1. Yeah most all the time we sign player based on economic not coach request or tactical like junior 1m euro nett salary so we reject asensio/ziyech that have 5m euro nett salary. Other example botman due to high fee transfer 40m euro that we refuse to pay & now we are struggle to find low cost CB even begging other club for loan option. There are many transfer fall down due to elliot refuse pay 1-5m euro difference , all that saving just go to elliot capital gain not for AC Milan

  2. They are being financially responsible. Nothing wrong with that. If the player is proud then he will come to a great great name like AC Milan. He can tell his grandkids he played for one of the greatest teams in history and it’s something no-one can take away from him. If he just wants money then add screw him.

    1. Yeah, that is the story us Milan fans tell each other to make us feel like our team is still relevant.

Sadly Milan had very little presence in Europe and has just won Scudetto after more than a decade, combine that with Seria A being some 50 years behind PL and some 30 years behind LaLiga and all that greatness just fades away and reality hits. We are just not as attractive destination as we used to be and we are far from being competitive in the market.

We need to keep playing on the highest level in UCL and Serie A, for the next 5 to 10 years, we need a new stadium and we need Serie A under new management if we are to even come close to where we were at the beginning of this century, and maybe start catching up to PL teams.
