Corriere di Roma: Milan take a step forward in pursuit of Lazio centre-back – the latest

By Oliver Fisher -

The idea of signing Francesco Acerbi is quickly gathering momentum as AC Milan have received the green light from the player, a report claims.

Corriere di Roma (via MilanNews) reports that Milan are still looking for a central defender despite missing out on Sven Botman, but they have decided to go for a low cost solution rather than a major outlay like the Dutchman would have required.

A track that has been heating up in the last few hours is the one that leads to Acerbi, who is set to leave Lazio and has already given his approval regarding a return to the Rossoneri, where he came through the youth sector.

Now the Rossoneri management will have to negotiate with their Biancocelesti counterparts who do not want to give Acerbi away for free given he still has three years of contract left, but at the same time they will not resist much since the arrival of Alessio Romagnoli depends on freeing up wages.

      1. Cheaper. And still better than Gabbia. I’d prefer Romagnoli to stay but not for over 3M€ (which he demands) and he really is destined to leave to get more playing time.

So why not? Would postpone the need for a new CB for 1-2 years and free the money for more important “defects” (RW & #10).

  1. Omg this one will fight for a place in europa conference league this season ok I get it now good job Redbird go get a 35 yr old

  2. Is he really better than Romagnoli?
Even if he will save like 3-4 mil?
There were news about Romagnoli’s willingness to stay, why not to keep him?

    1. Of course he’s not better than Romagnoli but the question is “is he decent enough backup for that price for a season or two until Milan have the money to buy a premium CB?”

      1. Well Mancini thinks he is for whatever that’s worth. Always called up to the national team while when was the last time Romagnoli wore blue?

  3. Wow thanks REDBIRD! What a statement signing this would be – 34yr old Acerbi!! Whoo hoo!! Plan the CL parade now pls. Lol. I mean why sign Botman or Bremer or even resign Romagnolli for free when you can get an older and slower version of him AND PAY Lazio for him right? Brilliant. Who is next? Walter Birsa as CAM? Maybe we can save some cash by playing Castillejo as a LB and let Theo play striker? Lol. Does anyone have Brocchi’s number. Bet he can fill in as def mid for a few games – I mean he’s like 50 but I think we can get him signed for a couple million.
