Longo: How Milan’s summer strategy will ‘change’ and what the budget will ‘depend’ on

By Oliver Fisher -

The strategy of the AC Milan management is likely to change in view of the summer transfer window with more of an emphasis on generating money through sales.

Yesterday’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport spoke about how the club are looking at seriously trimming the squad in the summer in order to free up space, wages and generate money to put towards the budget.

The likes of Tiemoue Bakayoko, Sergino Dest, Aster Vranckx, Ante Rebic, Fode Ballo-Toure and Yacine Adli were all mentioned as being at risk of leaving, with Milan aiming to free up around €15m in net wages.

Radio Rossonera did an interview with Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com about a number of topics from the season so far to the strategy and potential targets ahead of the summer, starting with what was written by La Gazzetta.

“I think something will change in terms of strategies for the Rossoneri management in the market. Massara and Maldini probably expected greater economic possibilities to invest in signings. Instead they understood that everything will depend on and must come from the exits,” he said.

“In my opinion, there will be particular attention – especially in the first part of the summer – towards the players that may be leaving. The liquidity achieved with the sales will be added to the budget which will always be more or less the same, I imagine.

“With the Champions League it will be 45 or 50 million to also go towards different targets. There are players who have been departing for some time. Rebic was supposed to be an asset but never was. Origi objectively disappointed.

“Clearly, if an offer arrives, Milan will take it into consideration to make a total capital gain. But I don’t think the Belgian has that much desire to leave Milan after one season. But Origi also earns a lot… This could have an impact.”

  1. LOL. No $$ yet again. What a surprise. Amazing ownership. Will be worse if we don’t make CL which is far from a guarantee. What money do we honestly think we are gonna get from the sale of the likes of Ballo-Toure (no good) Origi, Rebic (injury prone); Adli (has not played); Florenzi? lol. Come on man. Sell Poegba to Torino. Play Aster to see what he’s worth signing. Etc…Spending LESS money will not improve the squad. We will take steps backward not forward. Embarrassing. TY Redbird/Elliot

  2. LOL . So let me understand it. Before, we had no money because we needed UCL. and now we dont have money because???? . It’s a cycle of hope, when we win the champions, when we get our stadium etc etc. They just come up with another excuse. We can tell it isnt maldini tho, he wants the money to spend.
