Milan target says it’s ‘inevitable’ that fans don’t want to see him leave

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan target Lois Openda has discussed his future and the thoughts of the Lens fans that would like him to stay at the club this summer.

Speaking during an interview with French newspaper L’Equipe (via Calciomercato.com), the Lens forward was asked about whether he is going to be leaving the club and how the fans will feel about it.

The response from the Belgian forward suggested that he certainly could be on the move this summer and he stressed that he will always hold the club very dear to his heart.

“I had a good season at Lens. It is inevitable that the fans do not want to see me leave, I understand their attachment and I will always be linked to this club. But I have never disrespected anyone,” Openda said.

Milan would love to add Openda to their attack as he has been one of the best forwards in Europe this year. He has spearheaded an incredible season for Lens that saw them finish second in Ligue 1 and qualify for the Champions League.

He scored 21 goals during the Ligue 1 season and also grabbed four assists for good measure.

  1. Both of them scored a lot of goals in what can be described as farmers league, bundesliga and ligue 1.

Not saying they wouldnt be good in Serie A, but need to control the expectation. Don’t forget that Alexandre Lacazette looked like world beater there before and AFTER Arsenal, where he scored 31 goals (27 league and 4 coupe de France) and you know how he fare at Arsenal especially in last few years… In league that’s 3 more than Jonathan David, 6 more than Lois Openda and Folarin Balogun, and 8 more than Elye Wahi managed to score. All the strikers linked with us.

But at least the standard is higher than Belgian league 😅

    1. You forgot to say Mbappé scored 29 in Ligue 1 and he’s one of the best scorers in the entire world. So Openda is not very far from him with 21 goals and he’s only 23 yo. Don’t expect us to recruit Haaland or Lewandowski, Openda would be great. There is a lot of competition for him anyway and he won’t come cheap.

      1. I agree with you about Openda.. I think he would be a great signing and would add another dimension to the team but would Redbird sanction his purchase? I’m not too hopeful.

      2. That proves AR point. Do you Kylian will score same is Serie A. No fukn way. Maybe lawdenski will simply because he is? Classical Striker. A Paocher

        1. Yeah I absolutely think Kylian would score in this range in Serie A. I don’t get your logic my friend it’s just your personal belief, you have no evidence to prove your point. Osimhen scored 26 and he missed games. You think Osimhen is better than Mbappé? We are talking about a guy that already scored four goals in WC finals at 24 yo.

Anyway, coaches and players pray Ligue 1 for its harsh defenses there last years, it’s a league where very good players come from and Openda, Wahi and Balogun look very promising. Wahi will reportedly go to Monaco, let’s see if we can get one of the others. I really hope so!

  2. with all due respect mbappe is a world class player who has mared all teams he has met all the time for several years so regardless of stats and this seasons accomplishments its not really the same but does that exlude that openda would be a great transfer, no at all but you cant argue with that mbappe would offer guarantees for any team in the world, openda is yet to prove that. Neither should any league be considered unworthy. some transfers works some doesnt overall all transfers is a gamble between transfer fee/salary/contract length/performance outcome.
Generally i would prefer a majority of italians but i can understand tnat some markets are cheaper for now but look at højlund a lot of you wants him to sign for us and he wasnt really deemed good enough for fc copenhagen even though they considered him a talent he was sold to an austrian team before arriving for atalanta.
fc copenhagen by the way had the chance to sign haaland from tromsø and modric at 16 from croatia but didnt choose to do so, Not to forget that ac milan was also offered haaland and modric as well, sh1t happens,
Either way talent is talent regardless where it comes from but openda wont arrive if we wont spend a arge sum.

    1. Openda price 30-35m euro . Better focus on marcus so we can use budget for RW & DMF . Striker available in loan i think are balogun, hugo eikitike. Scamacca not available on loan ( westham reject roma loan offer and want cash ) . Rasmuss can be loan from atalanta but they want obligation with 40m euro or more

      1. i overall agree and hope we can get thuram but if you think højlund can be loaned out with an option i think you are most likely in a position to get disapointed as i read some danish reports ealier his season that højlund would stay if they qualified for cl and if they didnt atalanta had agreed to listen to offers of 50 mil or above which highly likely could happen and in that case we seemingly cant do nothing.
I would not get my hopes up on a højlund transfer as højlund is also a known man utd fan and they seem to be somewhat interrested.

      2. Thuram is 25 years old with 13 league goals while Openda is 23 years old with 21 league goals but he is not tall.

We better make CDK as RW, sign DM for free and use the remaining budget for proven ST.

        1. “but he is not tall.”

Did the lack of height prevent Jean-Pierre Papin from winning the Ballon d’Or? Nope. How about Messi? Nope.

          1. I am not against short player becoming a lone striker. Openda actually play as lone striker despite his height and he still score 21 goals at League 1.

However, if we look at Pioli’s work, it seems he want tall striker, Ibra, Giroud, and Lazetic are all tall, and his target (Thuram) is also tall. If Milan sign Openda, it is likely Pioli has to make change.

  3. I’m not sure our transfer targets, and admittedly this may just be media speculation, match up with who we can afford. I still think we need to make better use of free transfers rather than just losing players for free. Personally id like to see Thuram, Aubameyang and Adama Traore sign for free. The latter two are a bit of a risk, but we can then sell Origi for a nice capital gain, Rebic to ave his wages, and either Messias or Salaemakers. Decent arrivals and we actually make a profit.

  4. Ya don’t worry we will NOT sign Openda. A 35M from Leipzig bid was REJECTED by Lens so I’m sure they will accept a bid of 10M from us LOLOLOLOLOLO!!!! Work that magic Georgio and Stefano and pick up that red phone!!!! Hahahahahaha
