CM: Milan targeting Montpellier centre-back as well as Botman – the situation

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have got Montpellier defender Maxime Estève on their list of summer targets and he could arrive regardless of the Sven Botman pursuit, a report claims.

Calciomercato.com claim that Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara could make some intriguing movements in the centre-back department in the summer. In addition to Lille’s Botman, they have targeted the 19-year-old Esteve who is making a name for himself with Montpellier in Ligue 1 having played 13 games this season, before a bad muscle injury stopped him.

He is a less ready and polished profile than the Dutchman, but one that seems to have great potential (considering he is three years younger) and has the physical composition – standing at 1.93m – plus good technical quality.

He has been with Montpellier since the age of 12, when he entered their youth sector. He went from playing attacking midfielder to left winger, then full-back and finally to being a central defender.

This year came his jump to the first team, under the protective wing of the former Paris Saint-Germain defender Mamadou Sakho, and he is a France U20 international too, with dreams of wearing the senior Les Bleus.

A prestigious club like Milan could certainly interest him and as someone who loves cinema, he knows the script of a successful film involves something inspirational.
