Journalist reveals Milan tried to hire Inter mastermind Marotta – the background

A journalist has claimed that AC Milan wanted to hire Beppe Marotta but were ultimately rejected before he joined Inter.

Marotta is regarded generally as the best sporting director in Italy. Having joined Inter back in 2018, he has turned them into a side capable of reaching the Champions League final twice in the last three seasons, and without a huge budget.

In fact, Inter’s net spend since 2020-21 is positive at €69.84m, meaning they have made a transfer profit in that period. Players like Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Francesco Acerbi, Matteo Darmian, Yann Sommer, Nicolo Barella, Denzel Dumfries, Edin Dzeko and Lautaro Martinez arrived under his watch.

Free transfers like Hakan Calhanoglu, Marcus Thuram and Stefan De Vrij have also been successful for the Nerazzurri so far, and our recent audio bulletin dived into why they could be a model to follow for Milan in their path back to the top.

Marotta: A Milan target

As guests on the Aria Fritta Podcast (via MN24), Giuseppe Cruciani and Fabrizio Biasin revealed this sensational behind-the-scenes story about Marotta and how he actually could have ended up on the red side of the city.

Cruciani began by stating: “Marotta didn’t want to leave Juve, he was kicked out.” He is referring to when he left the Bianconeri seven years ago, leaving the reins to Fabio Paratici.

Biasin added: “You know that he had been contacted by Milan shortly before and he replied: ‘I am under contract with Juve, thank you but I can’t come’. Shortly after he was dropped by Juve. And then the Zhang family arrived [Inter’s owners]…”

  1. They offered for him the chance to work with our amazing management and he ran for the hills immediately. Moncada tried to kiss him, Furlani tried to backstab him, and Ibra was in cosplay as a lion yelling that he is the King….. I’d run away as well.

    1. You should try reading the article first before commenting nonsense.
“He is referring to when he left the Bianconeri seven years ago,”
He was contacted by Milan while he was still at Juventus before he joined inter. That’s 2018, not today.
Moncada wasn’t at Milan, Ibra was playing in the MLS, only Furlani maybe was part of the Milan board back then,.

  2. Everybody can see right thru our circus of an organization…sad day in the history of Milan that we can’t attract quality anymore…even sadder that all this is self inflicted. And before anybody respond by saying we manage to stabilize the books, look at the Inter model catching freebies without compromising quality.
