GdS: Milan play waiting game over Roma forward but Cardinale could change the plans

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are in talks with Nicolo Zaniolo’s agent over a potential move but are laying the groundwork in view of the summer, according to a report.

La Gazzetta dello Sport (as seen below) begin a report on Zaniolo by stating that Roma are counting on selling players to aid their budget given they are on around €219m losses, and it is Spurs and Milan that are interested above all in signing him.

Zaniolo’s agent Claudio Vigorelli is planning a telephone call with Fabio Paratici, the director of Tottenham, who are the winger’s favoured destination at the moment, while West Ham and Leicester remain in the background.

His agent is also ready to leave for London if things get serious, but for now Spurs are only willing to offer a loan with obligation to buy set at around €30m, but it would be an obligation only under certain conditions such as qualifying for the next Champions League which will not be easy.

Vigorelli was also contacted by Milan who – as they did last summer – expressed their interest and told him that if the negotiation with Spurs not unlock, they are ready to intervene in the summer because the player is interested in joining the Rossoneri.

If Gerry Cardinale gave the green light, Paolo Maldini and Ricky Massara would be happy to move this month to steal Zaniolo from the competition. On the other hand, given that the striker’s contract expires in 2024, in six months his value would plummet, putting Roma in great difficulty and facilitating a cut-price (and therefore lower risk) deal.

    1. He had a lot of potential but already had an ACL tear on both of his knees. Two surgeries. He kind of lost his speed after that. Now he dosn’t seem like even half of what he used to bee. This season he has scored only one goal so far. I think Milan can find something better for that amount of money. Look at Atalanta Lookman, they only got him for 9mil. Or Kvara in Napoli.

      1. “He kind of lost his speed after that. ”

Wow. IF that’s true, then he must have done something horribly wrong as I don’t recall anyone ever losing pace after fixing the ACL. And I know what I’m talking about as I had mine operated 20 years ago and seen many teammates do the same. Without any loss of pace.

        1. I don’t know, maybe after the injuries he is just scared of going in to duels full speed like he used too, maybe he is just more causes now. Who knows. But you can defenetly see that he doesn’t run as fast as he used to.

  1. Finally a signing for RW that has flair and can do something, our current RWs can’t really cross the ball properly, let alone dribble past someone. If we get him for 20-25M it will be a coup.

    1. I wanted to mention this in my first comment. Milan needs to look at other markets like Brazil for talents. Similar like Real Madrid who found great wingers there. We shouldn’t limit ourself to Italy and France which are our main scouting areas. I don’t know much about Angelo Gabriel, but i know that Brazilian playing style is great for producing top wingers.

  2. Let’s face it, Milan are forced to look at players such as Zaniolo or Zyiech or young unproven players like our past mercato, or players on an upcoming free transfer, because we don’t have real money to spend yet again. So we have to gamble on a player like Zaniolo in hopes he stays healthy and fulfill his potential, to grab a player like Ziyech who is 30 plus. Brazilian clubs are smart now and won’t sell their players for cheap. That’s why we scout now in Belgium and France as their are still SOME (not many) bargains there. For whatever reason M&M love Zaniolo. So it seems its either him or we are stuck with Messias/Sales for rest of season. Both options aren’t ideal, but if we have to chose of doing nothing and taking a flyer on Zaniolo (on LOAN w OPTION) then I would roll the dice on the loan and hope he impresses for rest of the year. We should also be going after Aouar hard as a player with his talent and age on an expiring deal is a steal and would help us immediately while the young kids develop and we can say goodbye to Diaz.
