Telegraph: Milan hope to sign Walker in next few days – Ibrahimovic playing ‘important role’

AC Milan are closing in on the signing of Kyle Walker from Manchester City and are hopeful of finalising a deal in the coming days, it is claimed.

According to what is being reported by The Telegraph, Zlatan Ibrahimovic ‘has played an important role in putting together a deal’ for Walker. The Rossoneri management are ready to offer a two-and-a-half-year contract, therefore running until 2027.

Walker will ‘compete for a first-team spot’ at Milan and will aim to secure a ‘regular place’. There have been links with a potential switch to the Saudi Pro League, but the Rossoneri ‘are the only club pushing for a deal at the moment’.

Walker has just under 18 months left on his contract with City so a transfer fee would be expected, especially given how valuable he has been under Pep Guardiola and the fact that he is the club captain. However, he is 34 so it would not be a huge sum.

That goes against what Matteo Moretto of Relevo said on the matter, as he stated that Milan are confident they might be able to get the England international on a free, given that he has asked to leave.

Guardiola insisted he would not stand in the way of Walker’s exit when asked after the FA Cup win over Salford about his future.

“Two days ago Kyle asked to explore the options to play abroad. We cannot understand [what] the club did these years without Kyle. It’s impossible,” he said.

“He’s been our right-back, giving us something we didn’t have. But now in his mind, for many reasons, he would like to explore if he can go to another country to play his last years.”

  1. Tierney seems to be out of favor at Arsenal. Maybe we can get him to be Theo’s deputy. The guy sure knows how to cross a ball. I like Ryerson of Dortmund but I don’t know if they’re willing to let him go. It’s not as if the management are asking my opinion on who to sign or reading sempremilan to know who to sign 🙂

    1. In Italy it’s always net salary but you are probably right. Don’t think Milan will offer €6 million salary per year and buy someone.

      1. Oh right good point. His net is 6m. Surprisingly not bad. I recall Maldini wanted him when he was director and he’s often correct when looking at defenders. He can play RB, CB and in a 2 or 3 at the back. And had experience and champion mentality

  2. Even Calabria/Emerson would be better than him, Walker has been the worst city player by far this season, he’s 35 soon and lost all his speed and strength. Maldini would never sign a dud like this

    1. Milan used to sign Cafu at 33. People was think he already passed his peak, but he prove them wrong. I hope Walker can give his best at the end of his career

  3. Walker at his worst is probably better than Calabria and Emerson combined so this would be a brilliant piece of business. His age is not ideal but we are desperate fora Good RB so I hope they get it done

  4. Also, I find it hilarious that the article says he’s going to compete for a spot. There ain’t gonna be any competition 😂

  5. This is sad. Walker is a welcome addition but he is a short term solution to a problem we didn’t really have. We had Gabbia, Thiaw, Tomori, Kalulu, Simic, Theo, Bartesaghi, Calabria, Jiminez, and Terreciano. Making changes in defense was unneccessary and now we are paying the price for it. We only have five midfielders in the squad, two of whom are injury prone. Clearly, this position deserved more attention assuming we wanted to field a midfield three.
200 million spent on a team that already had a solid base and the management are still crying out for a right-back, a midfielder, and by the looks of it, a striker.
They need to do a better job of planning and recruiting.
