GdS: Milan will entrust ‘rebuild’ to Tare or Paratici – the name in pole

AC Milan will hire a new sporting director ahead of next season and there is a number one candidate that has emerged: Igli Tare.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Milan are ‘ready to rebuild the team’, but not the one that takes to the field. Instead, a change to the managerial hierarchy is expected soon, with the addition of a new director.

The position is vacant today: there is no prominent figure, who has authority with the team, who participates in the daily sporting life of the group, able to interact with the coach and players. A man of coordination with the other areas of the club, who knows how to work as part of a team.

The CEO Giorgio Furlani confirmed the next step in his interview before the defeat to Lazio: “We have to improve our sporting results a lot. For this reason, if there are figures that we can bring to the club who will help us achieve our goals, we will consider them. At this moment, no decision has been made on this profile.”

What he says is true, because there are two profiles in the running: Fabio Paratici and Igli Tare. The former was sporting director for the nine Scudetti won in a row by Juventus, while the latter helped Lazio to three Coppa Italia wins and three Supercoppa Italiana titles too.

Andrea Berta must be deleted from the list because the former Atletico Madrid manager will continue his career at Arsenal. All three have had meetings in London with Gerry Cardinale and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, so now the club will make its assessments.

Paratici oversaw 19 trophies in a decade at Juve, plus two Champions League finals. He is a figure with European recognition. Tare spent 15 years as director of Lazio and is ready to return after two years of inactivity. He is currently in pole.

  1. Tare is a massively overrated director in terms of results. Maldini even had better results than him and the budgets were about the same at the time. Laizo’s team based on the quality should be aiming for higher every year and they never did. In terms of player personnel the yes he has gotten some decent signings individually but to put together a team we would need a different person

      Maldini’s budget.
      19/20, 144 milion.
      20/21, 32 milion
      21/22, 100 milion
      22/23, 58 milion.

      Tare budget
      19/20, 50 milion
      20/21, 42 milion
      21/22, 13 milion
      22/23, 41 milion.

Yup, the budgets were around the same at the time

          1. Haha! Yea I don’t really get into anything with Z. Some usernames I just scroll past. It’s not worth the time or effort really. But touche nonetheless 😂
I dunno when I wrote this but was throwback a discussion like a year or so ago on Tare on the site and I recall them having similar budgets at some point in time. So based on the data above the budgets were similar for two of the windows and then lopsided for the other 2. Fair enough. The 2019/20 was the investment into the Scudetto team. I believe that’s when we got Kessie, Leao, Benny and co.

What’s missing here is seriously addressing the other part of my statement….. the results. Sure they “finished ahead” ahead in two of those seasons but we accomplished more…a Scudetto and a UCL semi. Tare’s results are much weaker unless you want to hype up Europa League places. But he stays on budget I suppose (maybe that’s why management likes him)

          2. I’ll post what I and Milan4lyf wrote before instead of having to rewrite a whole bit. That “this year” below was referring to one of those years they finished higher than us…. literally his best ever finish a few million points off first place. Hey if Tare is his guy so be it but let’s not pretend he’s this superb director.

“If I were him, I would go straight for Igli Tare, who has just left Lazio after eighteen years of great work.” Lol I’m assuming Padovan included Tare’s time as a player in there because Tare became sporting director in 2009-10 season (he received his licence in April of 09). That makes it 14 seasons at the helm and….

….his best accomplishment in the league after so many years was *drum roll please* 2nd and that was this year 🤔. Assuming the 09-10 season, we can get as low as 12th and as high as 2nd. In those 15 seasons, Lazio have qualified only 3 times for the UCL, once with Pioli as the helm mind you when they finished 3rd in the league. They’ve finished between 5th and 8th 8 times out of those 14 years and the rest were below 8th place. Further to his “great work”, he won the Coppa 2x and runners up 2x. Outstanding.
Highest achievement in UCL was R16 and the other time didn’t even make it out of quali because……..as you’ve guessed Lazio didn’t strengthen the squad. Perennial Europa League team but only have gone up to the quarter finals as the best result.

Those are sporting results. I won’t post Maldini’s record as it’s too short for comparison but …..well we know.
He did bring in exciting players over time though. Luis Alberto among my faves and the likes of Immobile, Lazzari and so on.
Let’s hope there’s a leap that can be taken.”

You think Maldini’s signings are bad? You guys might wanna take a look at Igli Tare’s.

In three years, Maldini made 7 marquee signings that turned into stalwarts in Milan squad namely Theo, bennacer, Tomori, Maignan, Tonali, Thiaw, Kjaer, Kalulu. Igli tare.. in the entire 15 years as the man in charge.. had just 2. SMS and Luis Alberto. Zero trophies. He is no replacement. Just another yes man. Now, you can count the number of FAILURES Tare has brought over the 15 years.

Igli Tare is the best we can do to replace Maldini? LOL”

  2. “Paratici oversaw 19 trophies in a decade at Juve, plus two Champions League finals.”

He was working under Marotta during that time and Juventus downfall started with Marotta’s exit and Paratici’s promotion to a sporting director. So how much of the previous success was Marotta doing and how big of a role Paratici played.
IMO Tare is much more proven as the lone shot caller working at Lazio for a long time with very little money under Lotito.

  3. Admit your mistakes, bring back Maldini, give him the budget.

Also, dont ever wear those stupid jerseys again. Who in their right mind thought red and green was a good idea? This team has lost its Italian identity. Its a shame. Looked like the Portuguese national team yesterday.

  4. given paratici is a business man who presents himself well, we can assume we will hire him. gerry will never learn this isn’t a sport won by business men
