GdS: Milan aiming to win race for Salzburg striker by offering big pay rise

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan have a plan in mind for if they decide to make a concrete move for Red Bull Salzburg star Noah Okafor, a report claims.

According to a report from InsideFutbol, Liverpool have been tracking Okafor and may well throw their hat into the ring to try and land the 22-year-old who has scored 7 goals in the league and 3 in the Champions League, including one against Milan.

They then cite newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport in claiming that Milan are in fact keen on signing the player who bagged against him and they are able to offer him a big pay rise in order to try and win the race.

Okafor is currently on a €1m net per season contract at Salzburg but Milan are prepared to double that to try and convince him as they look to add another talented young forward to a group that already has the likes of Rafael Leao, Brahim Diaz and Charles De Ketelaere.

As well as Liverpool, Arsenal and Leeds United have been linked with a move for Okafor (via TEAMtalk). Of course, the obvious caveat to the Gazzetta report is that Premier League clubs can also easy double Okafor’s wages, if not triple or quadruple.

  1. He makes 1M so we will offer him 2M to seal the deal lol. Ya, while other clubs will give him 4M no problem. Unfortunately on to the next

  2. Don’t wanna accuse the scouts of being one-dimensional. But I hope him nabbing a goal against us isn’t their predominant reason for going for him.

Seems like we did that with Origi, he scored in San siro and just on that seemed to go to the top of our shopping list.

Bit like players that get hyped in the world cup (eg Kramaric this season) it’s often one-off performances, over stating their true ability.

Also, does anyone know if Okafor is comfortable as a no.9 ? From what I’ve seen he seems to be better as a wide forward… is he actually a Leao alternative?

Definitely not the #9 we’re looking for. Perhaps a replacement for Leao but I have my doubts on that as well. I’m glad I’m not in Maldini’s shoes as there’s of options and choosing the right one isn’t as simple as the FM-players here seem to think.
