Winning the Scudetto is a legitimate target for AC Milan this season and it would also have a big impact on next season too, a report claims.
La Repubblica (via MilanLive) writes how Milan are waiting to confirm their place in the Champions League also for the 2022-23 season but in the meantime the club must also think about their UEFA ranking.
Milan are in 43rd place in the UEFA club rankings which is obviously largely down to non-participation in the Champions League all but one of the previous eight seasons, plus their exclusive from the 2019-20 Europa League due to a Settlement Agreement.
As of today, Milan would once again be placed in the fourth pot in the draws of the group stage of the Champions League which landed them Porto, Liverpool and Atletico Madrid this season, but winning the Scudetto would give them an automatic passage into pot one.
The eight seeded teams are selected based on the results of the previous season so it will be the winners of the Champions League and the Europa League, plus the six champions of their respective top European leagues.
Hadn’t considered that, but that would be a very good added bonus – European progression is going to be a struggle as long as they’re stuck in pot 3 or 4, but is essential for long-term viability and spending power/ability to retain players
take care of the Scudetto…….too many “what ifs”
This is interesting, this could drastically increase our changes in the Champions League. Well one more reason to be hungry for success this season.
Our chances in CL depends on hiw much we invest to upgrade and add depth to the current squad. If we can pay buy out clause of Halland could turn the table. Let’s see how bold Maldini and co in the summer transfer.
The issue with Halland is not the release clause but the astronomical wages he would attract. He has been offered the highest wages in England by City where his father also played, hard to compete with that!
Lets concentrate on winning scudetto and sealing our place in the champions League next season.
All other things can wait
Winning the scudetto shud be paramount….all oda gains will follow
Very true,
Just imagine if we had won the Scudetto ahead of Inter and were drawn against Real Madrid, Shakhtar Donetsk and Sheriff, I think we would have had a bigger chance of getting through to the knockout phase.
But no, we got a hard draw on paper, in reality, I thought we held our own well against Atlètico Madrid and based on performance I think we had the upper hand, we also had a decent showing against Liverpool even though rightly they punished us hard because of their quality.
It was Porto however that really surprised me, maybe I underestimated them, but I was practically on the edge for the entire 180 minutes encounter with them, I thought we would have tried to sign Luiz Diaz.
Now I read we are concretely after Origi, I appreciate that as I watched him put our defence in a lot of difficulties, we can get both Origi and Belotti for free, Ibrahimovic can be given a non-playing role, manage Giroud for one more season, I think our CF position will have been adequately taken care of.
