MN: 2020 a huge year for Milan’s three pillars of the attack – the numbers

By Oliver Fisher -

The year of 2020 is about to come to an end, and it has been quite a year for AC Milan as they embarked on a remarkable resurgence.

As MilanNews reports, Milan will close the calendar year with 79 points, more than anyone else in Serie A, all the more remarkable when you consider the numerous injury problems encountered plus several COVID-19 cases.

Stefano Pioli’s side could only use their ‘typical starting XI’ once and that came in the match against Napoli, one that they won 3-1 in what is now the Diego Armando Maradona stadium.

Ibrahimovic, Calhanoglu and Rebic are the real leaders of the attack – together with Simon Kjaer at the back – and they are mentoring one of the youngest teams in Europe.

As the report adds, the Rossoneri managed to impressive offensive consistency, scoring in 36 consecutive games in the league. Rebic scored 13 goals in 2020, adding seven assists, of which six came this year alone. Calhanoglu scored 15 goals and added 16 assists in 2020, showing his importance to the attacking unit.

And then there is Ibrahimovic, who at 39 years of age is indisputably one of the best strikers in Europe. The Swede has made his mark 22 times in 2020, including 11 this season. His last few months have been frustrating due to various injuries and having Coronavirus, but in eight games without Zlatan this season, Milan have not lost.
