MN: Abraham starts with a bang – Milan believe he can rediscover 2021-22 form

By Oliver Fisher -

It took just a couple of minutes for Tammy Abraham to show what he can bring to AC Milan, and the management believe that they have taken a gamble with him that will pay off.

As MilanNews recall, Abraham only arrived on Friday and was officially announced as a new signing late on deadline day, but 24 hours later he was immediately thrown into the fray – along with Rafael Leao, Theo Hernandez and Yunus Musah – to try salvage the game against Lazio.

Not even two minutes later, the goal that made it 2-2 came from the feet of the three newcomers, with Abraham serving the assist to Leao with his first touch of the ball before the Portuguese winger slammed in a low shot.

Abraham then tried to call Hernandez and Leao over during the cooling break but they did not, something that in itself has become a saga because they chose to stay on the other side of the pitch, rather than listen to Fonseca’s instructions and stay with their team-mates.

In the final stages, Abraham himself had a good chance, but his shot from a tight angle was deflected behind for a corner by Provedel. In the 24 minutes played, Abraham was the Milan player who shot the most times (2) and he had 100% passing accuracy, participating in the build-up well.

Obviously, it will take time to gel with the rest of the attack but the hope is that he can repeat his first season at Roma, when in 2021-22 he closed the season with 27 goals (17 in Serie A, nine in the Conference League and one in the Coppa Italia) plus five assists.

  1. Starts with a bang? I didnt realize he scored a hattrick.

But seriously, this exaggeration needs to stop. I’m happy that he starts well, but there is no need to overhype that.

    1. Any new signing gets a new signing media boost to justify the new signing and encouraging more new signings.

Meanwhile the same media are working on Theo and Leao exits (and of course it’s a given Calabria is on his way out).

      1. Calabria? He has been frozen out by Fonseca for quite some time now and probably won’t get a minute anymore. But luckily we have the world’s best RB now in front of him. The next Ballon d’Or player. Royal Royal.

    1. You mean the worse start of a season since 1939? Fans these days… They should pay their season pass increased by 19% from last year and just shut up, that’s what real fans do I guess.

      1. You think a lie told a hundred times will become the truth? They won’t. In the 2011/12 season, as champions, we started at home with Lazio 2-2, then lost to Napoli 3-1, then played at home 1-1. Result 2 points won and goal difference 4:6.

        1. 2011-12
          1. Cagliari – Milan 0-2

And then you’re right for the other games. Also, Milan won one game in the last ten Serie A games. Try harder, this management needs you on this comment section since I don’t think you’re concerned by the 19% increase of the season pass.

          1. Actually my bad, the first game against Cagliari was played in December since there was a Serie A strike. So Fonseca, Emerson Royal, Chukwueze, Musah and the boys can still win everything. They sure look like a team going in the right direction. Let’s pray for a Serie A strike!

          2. Your problem is that you don’t like this club. He supports his club even when things are going badly. You don’t look like a Milan fan 😉

      2. Maybe relax a couple months or so before going bananas?
Always these weird stats to “worst start of a season since 1939” .. what the hell has that to do with anything? Who cares?

And people buy their tickets out of free will. If you buy a sport ticket and expect things to go as in your imagination then you are not very smart.

    2. He gets some free passes (literally) because he’s a fancy new signing.

Only players that have consistently over extended periods can’t afford to make one mistake or be outnumbered on the right flank.

Look at the double standards applied to Calabria and Pavlovic for their roles in conceding the same goal (where only the former was outnumbered).

  2. Lighten up a bit, boys, that’s what we have for today… let’s hold on to this flimsy glimmer of hope. I’ve never been a big fan of this guy, but who knows, maybe he join us willing to resurrect his career. Let us pray.
