MN: An insight into Milan’s preparations for the derby vs. Inter as Pioli ponders three XIs

By Oliver Fisher -

In three days Milan will take the field in the most emotive game of the season as they will face their city rivals Inter at San Siro.

As MilanNews reports, Stefano Pioli’s team go into the game with a 19-game unbeaten run on the line, full of confidence, with Alessio Romagnoli and Zlatan Ibrahimovic back in the group.

The coach is currently working at Milanello with 7-8 members of the first team because the rest are on international duty, but on Wednesday and Thursday players will return and he will be able to try the XI he wants to play against Inter.

At the moment, everything revolves around the condition of Ante Rebic and there is optimism about the recovery of the Croatian, but Thursday will be the decisive day. Rebic to date has not yet done even a workout with the group – only therapy in the gym.

There are three possible solutions if Rebic is not fit. The first involves player Brahim Diaz on the left along with Calhanoglu and Saelemaekers, all behind Ibrahimovic.

The second solution is more offensive and sees Rafael Leao take Rebic’s place as happened in the first half against Spezia, while the third would be Castillejo on the right and Saelemaekers on the left.

Despite this, Bennacer and Kessie are expected to hold the fort in midfield, with Calabria, Kajer, Romagnoli and Theo in defence. Andrea Conti is back in training, but Gabbia, Duarte and Musacchio are still out.
