MN: Bennacer hoping to have turned a corner – Milan’s midfield nerve centre is back

By Oliver Fisher -

Ismael Bennacer is hoping to have turned a corner in terms of his form after an up and down start to the new season, a report claims.

A number of young players impressed right from the first minute of the 2021-22 campaign such as Sandro Tonali, Brahim Diaz and Rafael Leao, but some took a bit longer to get back to the levels that we are used to and Bennacer is among them.

MilanNews writes how – after some games where he struggled – the Algerian found his usual tactical astuteness and his skills as a director of the midfield both against Juventus and in the match against Venezia.

Tonali has shown great growth compared to last year, but Bennacer’s vision of the game is a huge weapon. He has the technical quality to hurt teams but above all great skills as a player who controls the pace of the game with his quality, as seen in his pre-assist to Theo for Brahim’s goal on Wednesday night.

Pioli can now count on strong, reliable players for his midfield after all the injuries last season and Bennacer will represent a fundamental aprt of that. If Kessie and Bakayoko can get to their top level and be consistently available, the Algerian will be the mind and nerve centre of the system, along with an improved Tonali.
