Ismael Bennacer is set to stay with the Algeria team at the Africa Cup of Nations despite his injury concerns as he may still be able to play a role for this country, a report claims.
As has been reported by Milan News, Bennacer is not going to be coming back to AC Milan early despite the fact that he is not fit enough to play in Algeria’s final group game of the tournament against Mauritania.
Having played in the first match against Angola, a muscle injury has meant that he missed the game against Burkina Faso and will be out against Mauritania.
The concerns about his injury do not seem to be quite as severe as they first were and should Algeria make it through to the next round, there could still be more AFCON minutes available for Bennacer who has worked extremely hard to be fit enough to help his country.
He has missed almost the entirety of this season whilst recovering from a knee injury and he managed to play in a couple of matches for Milan before heading to AFCON.
It might be a relief for Milan if Bennacer were to return early, but nobody can begrudge him waiting to see if he can play.
If they lose today they are out of the tournament anyways..
Algeria didn’t allow Bennacer to play in the Copa Italia game for Milan just so they end up last in their group.
Bennacer needs to get on the 1st plane back to Milano.
Algeria lost to Mauritania and ended 4th in group, so Benny will fly back with the first plane.
