MN: Champions League progress key as Milan target €30-35m striker signing

By Oliver Fisher -

While Olivier Giroud continues to contribute about as much as AC Milan can reasonably ask him to, the management must find a striker who he can pass the baton to.

MilanNews reports that there are various interesting profiles being considered, but there is one who has been followed for some time and who is particularly popular: Jonathan David. His contract expires with Lille in June 2025, a timing which already makes him financially attractive for Milan’s strategy of finding value.

However, his asking price could drop even more given Giorgio Furlani’s skill in negotiations, the good relations with Lille and the less than positive performances from the Canada international. David is stuck on two Ligue 1 goals, and hasn’t scored for 10 games.

Milan will certainly make the investment for a striker either in January or in the summer, trying not to go beyond €30-35m which, coincidentally, would be precisely the figure on which they could – and would like – to close the David deal for.

To ensure that the former Gent star can arrive immediately, however, a push from the field is needed because getting into the Champions League knockout rounds would guarantee revenues that increase the transfer budget in turn.

  1. As arduous as it would be, I think we should wait until the summer when further options would surely become available. David is not convincing me.
