MN: Chukwueze needs turning point in Milan season to justify signing

By Euan Burns -

AC Milan winger Samuel Chukwueze needs to find a turning point in his season if he is to be deemed a successful summer signing given the price that was paid for him.

As highlighted by Milan News, the Nigerian winger has so far not had the level of impact that and would have hoped for after his arrival from Villarreal.

He was the most expensive of the summer signings, arriving for €20m and a potential €8m in bonuses, but he has been outperformed by the likes of Christian Pulisic, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tijjani Reijnders.

He has got no goals and one assist in Serie A from 15 appearances, which totalled 585 minutes. He has only managed to start in seven league games, and it is a factor that he got all the way to the final of the Africa Cup of Nations with Nigeria and also had an injury before that tournament.

He did score against both Newcastle and Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League group stage, but overall he has not justified the price tag so far.

If he does not improve in the latter part of the season, then Milan may need to evaluate his future, given he could still be a valuable asset in the transfer market.

  1. I think the reasonable thing to believe is that he is totally screwed now. Just hope we keep him until winter to see if a good preseason will do the trick.

    1. No justification that he has underperformed so far? You haven’t watched any games? You hadn’t followed how CDK played out?

Therefore it’s not justified to think the same may happen to Chuk?

      Strange…

  2. Gasperini wouldn’t get anything out of him.
Chukwueze is 4x more predictable than suso, zero tricks, doesn’t attack the box(center), or combine(1-2s) and make intelligent runs like pulisic.
    Just always isolated outwide.
Chukwueze has ‘two left legs’ ; i mean Theo, maignan & others can use their weaker foot better (see pulisic’s goal against monza).
Pioli can give him a ‘last chance’ on the left when Leao is out- if he can’t dribble, deliver good through balls and crosses playing on the side of his strong foot then it’s a wrap.

At least Salad has good first touch, passing & crossing also adds much needed intensity & energy synonymous with pioli ball (pressing) and does about half the job of the RB.

  3. Frank : It’s the same old story. Boy finds girl, boy loses girl, girl finds boy, boy forgets girl, boy remembers girl, girls dies in a tragic blimp accident over the Orange Bowl on New Year’s Day.

    Jane : Goodyear?

    Frank : No, the worst.

    1. Or my version:

It’s the same old story. Club buys player, media praise player, fans get excited, player struggles, media blame player, fans blame player, player sold at a loss, player performs better at another club, player scores against you for Inter on Derby Day.

      The 2023/2024 season?

      No, every season.

  4. Let’s remember how Leao started. Same situation, that we almost sold him in a hurry.

Players are different, while some adapt so easily, some will require enough time to blend and when they do, they don’t look back, just like our best player (Leao) today.

    MO.

    1. Sure, but Leao always had that extra something that made me want to wait and see if there’s more. He showed glimpses of class talent. And he was still just a boy back then.

Chuk will be 25 this year and hasn’t really show anything interesting in his play that would make me want to see more from him. All I’ve seen was bad vision, no composure and participation in build up play or support in re-group phase.

  5. Why do some fans not understand the concept of some players needing time to adapt. Especially in his situation where it’s a new league, new language, barely any play time. Thats the main issue here – little to no play time for new forwards.

Remember before becoming amazing at city, KDB was considered horrible by fans all over the world after his first season in England with Chelsea…

  6. I wonder if the numerous fools on this chat that were calling for Maldini’s sacking over the signing of CDK – who NOT surprisingly, is now showing his quality (as he just needed time to adapt and play in his correct position) will also be as vocal in firing Georgie boy or Moncada over the current BUST signing of Chukuweze who we dropped 28M on and cannot secure a starting spot. 🤔🤔🤔🤔. We are waiting…..LOL
