MN: Furlani, Moncada and Pioli believe emphasis on free transfers could be winning strategy

The AC Milan management are at work to try and improve the squad after the sacking of Paolo Maldini and the consequent farewell of Ricky Massara.

According to MilanNews, the CEO Giorgio Furlani, the chief scout Geoffrey Moncada and the head coach Stefano Pioli are now the ones calling the shots. Among the many ideas they are discussing is the possibility of focusing heavily on free transfers.

In recent days there has been a lot of talk about Bosman moves, i.e. those who have not renewed their contracts with their clubs and are looking for a new team to transfer to without a transfer fee.

Milan are looking at this list of players with great interest, well aware that – with the many gaps to fill in Pioli’s squad – bringing in some top-level players for free this summer could be really decisive, especially given that there is not a huge budget available.

Daichi Kamada of Eintracht Frankfurt is one name on the list, Marcus Thuram too who will depart Borussia Mönchengladbach. The opportunities are tempting to Milan but also to other clubs, meaning there is competition to beat.

  1. It’s not that they “believe it could be a winning strategy”, it’s that they’re simply not prepared to spend any money!!! And besides, no-one will want to come to a club which pays lower wages than everyone else…

    Wake up, Milan!

  2. Jerry: Ok guys listen what my genius mind found out. We lost key players for free, right? So we are going to recruit key players for free.
Pioli/Moncada: But they left because they wanted big salaries…
Jerry: Sorry, did you say something?
    Pioli/Moncada: No my lord, you’re a genius.
Furlani: And we could also sell our key players to increase revenue, your highness.
Jerry: Good. I like you Forloni.
    Furlani: It’s Furlani, your eminence.
    Jerry: What?
    Furlani: Nothing, your majesty.

    1. 😀 even though its written comically this propably doesnt stray far too much away from the actual truth.

    2. Ya Ya it’s all too funny but in reality Milan supporters are crying once again
Ndicka has decided on Roma? Mr are you
      serious darling

Please Milan management supporters of this club are waiting on your reply on this!
Lets see what magic the management can perform with this strategy of signing free players
      What happened to Tielemans?

  3. LOLOLOLOLO…..ya but unfortunately EVERY OTHER CLUB thinks the same way and we are competing with every other club that has MORE $$$$$.

What a fkn JOKE. We want all the free players but cant or won’t pay them??? LMAO. This gets better and better.

Where are those losers on this site that didn’t want that “dirty” Arab oil money??? LOL. Ya hasn’t worked for Man City eh?

Wage caps, 35M budget and can’t spend more than 30M on any player including their salary…..Wonderful!

TY Redbird keep up the great work LOLOLOLOLOLO

    1. Yeah, Pioli and Furlani will convince players to join for less, because everyone knows them and they are so respected that they can do that. If only we had someone that could and did that quite good…

And you can see how PSG, City, Newcastle is falling apart. They are poor and in debt, and being banned because of FFP every year. Thankfully we got Cardinale that uses other people’s money to invest and has to answer to them, and bring profits. We have sustainable rejection of all targets. People don’t seem to understand that US investment funds bring profit to investors, they don’t invest money for love or something else…

      1. So Wall Street money smells better? Gulf billionaires and Wall Street billionaires have the same god: money. At least we would have some cash to work with. Jerry and his investors didn’t make their money working hard like you and me probably are.

        1. but thats just it. There wouldnt be any cash.
You people whining day in day out are completely oblivoius to the situation Milan is in.
Milan literally cannot spend a lot of money because of that research agreement with uefa.. Changing owners does not change that
If they break it Milan is out of eufa cups again. Whats the point in building an expensive competitive squad if you cant compete?

          1. That Agreement does not restrict us to spending 50 million euros per transfer window, if it did, Maldini would not have asked for more.

        2. Actually Manchester City was brought, by Arabs in 2008.. It took them, 15 years to win the Champions League! What made you to think? That with Arab ownership, we will instantly start competing with European elites?

          1. To make matter worse, the only Arab bidder was Investcorp (an investment firm not majorly owned by an Arab royal family). No wealthy Arab royal family (like those who bought city, p$g, or newcastle) try to buy Milan.

          2. @Forțamilan IKR they have won many trophies during this 15 years.. But I believe, Champions League, was their biggest target! And it took them, 15 years to put their hands on it!

      2. Yes, and you know whose money is now in Milan? Can you tell us? Whose money did Redbird get to buy Milan? We have no idea.

        1. idk. probabaly dirty murican oil and tobaco money.
Still better than giving even more influence to arabs in EU

          1. Wow because they’re Arabs? We’re so close from you calling City or PSG owners terrorists. This is going too far, good night.

          2. Is it going 2 far? In my exp when people start saying that you’re on to something..
A football forum isnt a place for such discusion but whatever.
Riddle me this, who finances them terrorists? Is sure as sh1t isnt the Nato or UN…

          3. Like when america funded bin laden when he was fighting the soviet or when they fund syria “rebels” while john mccain taking pictures with them ! Yeah america and nato is known for their clean hands

      3. I would rather see Milan owned by Arab money!!! Look at Man City… from strength to strength.. wake up u, think BIG. Stop with that small minded lifestyle😎😎🤓

    2. truth be told i would not have been a fan of an arab ownership but im certainly not a fan of this american one either, neither would i like a russian ownership.
European clubs should be owned by europeans in my book.

    3. Actually Manchester City was brought, by Arabs in 2008.. It took them, 15 years to win the Champions League! What made you to think? That with Arab ownership, we will instantly start competing with European elites?

      1. And in that 15 year they progress in patience and living behind milan in memories only, being in top of football nowdays.

        1. It took them “15 years” to reach, where they are today.. It didn’t happen overhead.. Not to forget, most, if not all, Milan fans aren’t even patient with new ownership and they want instant success..

    4. This isn’t an official communication from Milan. This is speculation and a rumor mill from various sites for clicks.

Don’t get your parties in a bunch and wait to see what happens this summer before you judge or LOL your a$$ off.

    5. I don’t want dirty Arab money because that money is literally destroying the entire planet thanks to climate change PLUS the country has an atrocious human rights record, and is a key aggressor in the Middle East.

      But that’s politics.

Back to football. Why does a team that finished 4th (and could’ve finished higher had we beaten Spezia, Salernitana, Empoli and/or Cremonese) and got to the semi-finals of the Champions League (losing to a team that held its own against a team funded by filthy money) need to sign loads of new players for free or otherwise?

Surely we only need a couple of players to improve the squad?

You know. Build. Rather than reset every few months?
Why do we need to sign.

    6. If you want dirty Arab money, you won’t get it from Investcorp though. They are a private investment firm not majorly owned by an Arab state/royal family.

  4. Exactly, strategy like they are playing football manager. Amazing, I can’t wait to see the players will bring. They are geniuses, nobody else thought of signing those players, Milan can just pick them up by offering low wages compared to others. I mean there is nothing wrong with signing free players, but the idea that you will sign good players with a 4M€ salary cap is idiocy. Complete idiocy.

Instead of chasing people that won’t join, Gundogan publicly stated he would be interested in moving to Italy because of his wife and kids and his wife publicly said she hates English food. She lived in Italy most of her life. Pioli should go there and beg him to join, on his knees. I don’t think he will play for 4M per year though…

    1. So accurate my friend. Idiocy or ignorance, since Jerry and Furlani the banker doesn’t know anything about football and the only guys remaining in the building that know some, Pioli and Moncada, probably don’t want to displease King Jerry so they can keep their job.

Maldini was the only guy who would stand up against so much idiocy and he was thrown out of the window for that. Fat Scaroni said they don’t need Maldini anymore now, but once again these idiots don’t know what they’re talking about. And we have to eat all this bs about “don’t worry guys, keep spending your money at the stadium and the shop, we will sign key free agents”. Alright.

    2. Gündogan would be a huuuuuge improvement. Even if he would become the best paid player in the squad Furlani should sign him ASAP.

      1. Actually he isn’t “Mission: Impossible” if you look at his salary which is £7,280,000 gross. Give him 6M€ net and enjoy his domination in Serie A for 3-4 years and get a scudetto or two meanwhile.

      2. Gündogan is the exact sort of player we should be focusing on.

Any player we sign and causes disruption to the side has to be worth it. And there aren’t many players who are worth it. He’s one who is.

    3. Yup, that is the strategy I used when I play Football Manager, bring cheap/free young players. And if I lost a match, I can just reload the saved game and replay it untill I win… 🤣

  5. in theory its not a bad idea but you cant be picky about it.
Aleix Garcia. 25 yo. CM. 1G5A for a random club named Girona.

Jonathan Bamba. 27yo. winger 6G7A. Lille

Poor Skriniar didnt even get to play CL finale. Sign that 😀 a CB

    1. We already saw what happened with Tielemans and Nd1cka. Garcia and Bamba could be fine from the rotation but they aren’t key players. Maldini was thinking about Milinkovic-Savic and Berardi. It’s way more relevant to a team with ambition to win scudetti and UCL.

      1. you didnt see sh!t. you saw one news saying Milan is interested in them and just assumed there was serious negotiation taking place and then 12h later Milan “lost” them.. Cmon

Second. Milan doesnt need key CB and CM players. Milan needs RW, ST (maybe) and AM.

        1. Haha now you’re in complete denial. It was multiple reports. Man you should quit drinking. Berardi is not a CB, he’s a RW. We don’t need key CM? Bennacer is lost for months, so we play with Tonali, then Krunic and Pobega? We maybe need key ST? So 37 yo Giroud is going to play every minute?

          1. I never said anything about berardi.
Im not i denial, your’e just making sh1t up so you can bash on the owner becasue they fired your precious Maldini.
Yes, a rotation cm not a key cm. You do know what a key player is, right? Since Pioli loves krunić so much he is not gonna drop him for just anyone.
And yes, Giroud will play every minute. Milan will not cash out on a ST so a cheap back up will come, maybe. First they need to sell anyway

          2. But he is right. Milan needs to buy a player that will play in place of Bennacer, and he will probably be out for the whole season by the reports, or he’ll be back for the end, but it will be like he isn’t.
So someone to play instead of him and another backup. We had Vrancx also but he left. You can’t go into season with 3 midfielders, minimum of 5.

  6. I don’t think they have an alternative! It’s clear that there is no significant amount of budget for summer mercato.
If Redbird had any intention on spending, Maldini would never had left.

  7. these people are funny o, empty hand to win trophy now I understand Mr cardinale. they feel reluctant to pay the free agents. mid table ya

  8. Thuram can go to the city of his choice, earn more, win the league every year, and with Messi and Neymar going, become a starter for psg alongside Mbappe

    Lols

  9. I’ve told you this and I’ll tell you again, scouting is easier than persuading. These clowns will know how hard it is to persuade player to join club with salary cap. Hence you need legend to tell the tale about great AC Milan history and future project. Prove me wrong that these clowns will be getting promising Serie B player or some unkown from far faraway instead of high profile free agent. Mark my comment and bully me if I’m wrong

  10. I could understand this if we didn’t get to semis and not qualified for champions league but we did? It sends message the club will never spend, what if we don’t get top for next season, no signings at all? And I read we balanced books after this season, but got to pay owners and shareholders out somehow haven’t we!

  11. Galliani and Banter Years 2.0 with free transfers… I hope this isn’t a thing. Let’s see how the summer plates out.

  12. Buhahha Pioli becoming Redbirds yes man 🙂

Moncada’s algorithm in practice sign 10 free players and pray to god one turns out to be good 🙂 Statistically speaking 1 out of 10 ain’t so bad 🙂

  13. This summer might just be worse than the previous one …in terms of us signing players. The free players don’t even want to come to Milan as it stands.

It’s looking like we will miss out on Marcus Thuram too.

  14. let’s see how this go and wether forloni, moncada and pioli combo could sign their target, with so many restrictions from the owner; there’s limit to who they can target. and pioli tend to bench players deemed not ready. he got high bars standard. fail to sign at least their key target might turn this into disaster. this summer would be long and exhausting.

  15. Where Milan are in the project we should be at the stage where we’re focusing on one key signing a summer.

One world class player that genuinely lifts the squad, gives us the lift in quality needed to beat…erm…Salernitana.., and is a clear signal to the rest of the squad and the world that we mean business.

We’re way past picking up a few freebies.

  16. Thuram and Kamada are the perfect free transfers. We then should be looking at Baldanzi and Chiesa to complete the attack and midfield.

  17. Furlani, Mocanda & Pioli emphasis on no tranfer so far.. You all belive kamada already fixed to milan after maldini out of negotiation table.

  18. Hahahaha hahahaha although I resigned from supporting my club after Maldini was sacked because the club is lacking a symbol of Milan and the history is fading.
I knew the truth will come because everyone is blaming Maldini without knowing the truth, Maldini bought CDK and he was a flop in his first season with Milan but we all have forgotten that same Maldini brought leao who was a flop in his first season but the best now in Italy
Maldini brought Origi but we forgot he came as a free player and we have forgotten that one of the best player for benfica and man city were discovered by Maldini but no money was released by cashless cardinal.
We are just reading and commenting without knowing the actual truth cardinal has no money he’s grounded and broke but he’s buying time by deceiving us that he wants to build a new stadium which is a fallacy and lies.
Maldini refused to be part of the management where other teams are improving their teams while we remain with 50m a season a club so big as Milan?
We lost to lazio inter Napoli because they have alternatives in every position but Milan is not. Any time Leao or Theo is not playing we must lose the match but in the league every big team won without their main man
So here is my point. The so called mediocre management has come out to say the truth that THEY ARE FOCUSING ON FREE TRANSFERS. Hahahaha hahahaha

    1. Why don’t you resigned from commenting on this site if you have resigned being Milan fan?

I dislike the sacking of Maldini too but I’ll still support Milan.

      1. @ Yelnats24 , you are a baby Milan fan and I don’t think you understand what a legacy and history means? Did you ask while Totti refused to play for other clubs than Roma or Maldini than Milan or Zennatti than inter?
Did you understand what kaka said during The first rumours of his transfer to Real Madrid when he came out with Milan shirt through a glass window upstairs?
Do you know what’s called loyalty when Figo left Barca for Madrid? If u know all these you won’t talk like a novice supporter

  19. You dont have Maldini’s Aura to attract the players anymore, so suck it Cardinale and friends,
I’m afraid there is no one want come to Milan this season, without Maldini’s charm its very hard to persuade player with less money

  20. I am agree with this policy, Daichi Kamada & Marcus Thuram are good players. But their salary will still high, because of their quality.

Senior, sign the free transfer. But spend high on young player, prefer maks 18-19 years, so can fulfill UCL regulation for Club Home-grown players.

Real Madrid already did this policy, recall the transfer of Vinicius Jr & Rodrygo. And the latest is Endrick, a 15 years old boy who bought for 72mill euros.

    1. Milan doesn’t have 72M in total for this transfer window. They couldn’t sign even Rodrygo or Vinicius kids as they both cost 45M a piece. It is a great strategy if you plan it properly, but with 4M salary cap and 30M transfer cap you won’t sign any of these players. Not a single world class young talent will come to Milan if they can pick to go to City, Real etc. And they will be paid, their agents, former club etc. None of them will try to cut the fee by 2M and salary by 0.5M€ to save a few million in a few years’ time…Milan asked for a discount on every single loan to buy option we had. Like every single one, that is just pathetic, especially in the case of Tomori who was great and definitely worth the money…You think we will get the best talent with that kind of behaviour? Which club will accept any loan with option to buy if they know Milan will not really want to pay the fee in the end and will try to be as cheap as possible…

    2. according to transfermarkt Endrick has been bought for 35 mil euros but still we wouldnt be able to afford such sum and he cant play in europe before he turns 18 which make it even more impropable to make such moves.

      1. +bonuses. If he plays for Real and scores a few goals it is over 60M, depending how much of the bonuses is activated it can go even more up.

          1. still wasnt he signed last year and will first arrive in the summer of 2024. he could have a career ending injury in the mean time so regardless of talent it would seem rather risky even if the club is rich.
