MN: From Chelsea outcast to Milan star and England international – Tomori’s trajectory keeps going up

By Oliver Fisher -

Fikayo Tomori’s rise since the start of the year has seen him go from Chelsea outcast to being one of AC Milan’s irreplaceable players and back in the England fold.

MilanNews recalls how the Rossoneri were actually linked with several other targets such as Ozan Kabak and Mohamed Simakan before they ended up signing Tomori, and it did not take him long to displace Alessio Romagnoli in the first choice starting line-up.

Milan then made his loan a permanent deal by spending €28m to sign him in the summer and that currently appears to be a bargain for a centre-back who possesses power, speed, good technical ability and excellent positioning.

Simon Kjaer and Alessio Romagnoli make up a trio of central defenders that allows head coach Stefano Pioli to feel comfortable and to rotate his men according to their condition and the opposition they will face, while Matteo Gabbia and Pierre Kalulu are reliable fourth and fifth choices.
