MN: Krunic sustains thigh injury as Milan’s need for a new midfielder intensifies

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will be without Rade Krunic for their trip to Atalanta and that could very well expedite their pursuit of a new central midfielder, a report claims.

MilanNews confirms that Stefano Pioli will not be able to call upon Krunic in Bergamo due to a strain in the rectus femoris of his left thigh. The extent of the injury is still to be assessed and therefore it is still difficult to estimate the recovery time of the Bosnian.

What is certain however is that a reinforcement for the midfield is all the more necessary, given that at the moment the Rossoneri coach can count on Ismael Bennacer, Sandro Tonali, Tommaso Pobega and Tiemoue Bakayoko (who seems outside of the plans).

Up until the World Cup in Qatar there will be a lot of games and plenty of weeks with multiple fixtures, so while Krunic’s injury does not bring about an immediate crisis it once again exposes what many perceive to be a lack of depth in the engine room.

The number one candidate in terms of a new signing is Raphael Onyedika of FV Midtjylland but an agreement has yet to be found with the Danish club, with a distance of about €5-6m in offer and demand at present.

  1. For those that screamed we didn’t need another midfielder – even though M&M want and believe we need one – LOL. Perhaps you may want to revisit that line of thinking. Many many games to be played (every 3 days) in this truncated schedule. Depth is key this season.

    1. Absolutely, a midfielder and defender are needed for depth, a lead RW would also buff up our RW position but we all know we don’t have that kind of budget

  2. We had a perfect midfeilder of quality and technique in Sanchez but as usual we allowed our stupidity take over and we Wasted life time and let him go just to save few millions While some fans here we’re supportive, now we are gunning for a 21 year old mediocre player from Denmark who we are still offering 4m when it is 7m………..

Leao wàs offered 4.5m as renewal, while benaceer was offered 3m as renewal, what exactly Is this management smoking, they Will keep on losing players just because of stupid pinch of money thinking they are smart and the way I see it, we will end up the same place we came from, if this keeps happening……this style of management is Effing CRAZY, makes no sense and Maldini is just in this for love of Milan cos this management is pure shambles.

    1. You seem to think Milan has more money than you think they do. Cost-value wise it didn’t make sense, the “save a few millions” on Sanches was more than just a few millions. We cant overpay like PSG who offered twice the wages at 6m. Gross over 4 years it works out to a 24million differential..not a few millions not even counting transfer and agent fees

  3. Why dont Pioli seriously considering to train saelemaekers as central midfield ?
He can run up and down with the great stamina, nice pressing good defending as box to box midfielder do, but he can be good winger as he lack crossing, cut inside and shooting ability

  4. I guess Tonali will start after all. I really wondered who Pioli would have picked had Krunic not picked up this injury

  5. Return bakayoko to chelsea & buy new DMF fast before market close. Too many time wasted just because AC Milan waiting for that crap renato
