MN: Lille could miss out on Leao money if Sporting CP fine situation not resolved

It is in the best interest of Lille to pay the fine that they owe to Sporting CP because they risk losing more money if they do not, a report claims.

As has been reported by Milan News, the French club are currently taking the case to every court possible to try and make sure they do not have to pay Sporting any money for the way they signed Leao before he came to AC Milan.

The issue with that is the fact Leao’s agent, Jorge Mendes is keen to let Leao’s contract with Milan expire so that he can leave to join a new club for free in 2024.

If Lille pay the fine and take that issue away from Milan’s contract negotiations, it is much more likely that Leao will sign an extension.

Lille should want him to extend as they will get 15% of any money Milan make by selling Leao. If he leaves on a free transfer, Lille will get nothing.
