MN: Milan biding their time before Jonathan David bid with price declining

AC Milan are willing to show some patience before they make a bid for Jonathan David from Lille because his price is going down each month, a report suggests.

As has been reported by Milan News, the Rossoneri are prepared to wait until the summer before they sign a new striker as Luka Jovic’s form picked up in December and Olivier Giroud can certainly still lead the line.

The name at the top of the list for the summer is Lille’s David, as the Canadian striker has been destined to leave the French club for a long time and has long been linked with the Rossoneri.

There were times when David would have been out of Milan’s price range, but his value is deteriorating throughout the season thanks to his contract which expires in 2025.

Lille know that when Milan start bidding for David, they won’t be able to push too hard when it comes to the price tag as if they don’t sell him, he will leave for free during the following summer.

For this reason, it may only take a bid of around €25-30m for Milan to get their man, meaning they could finally have a long-term replacement for Giroud.

  1. Why don’t we reinitiate our interest on Taremi for a free deal. At least as a plan B or something. And now Inter are close. Thuram mk. II all over again.

      1. He’s free. At least on paper (excl signing fee for agent and stuff). And regarding how much money Inter spent, well sometimes, if not most of the times, you have to spend money to get money. Spend (or invest to put it mildly) more money and get more money in return.

The better (read: more expensive) squad they have, the better achievement they get, will all end up in increasing their valuation. And once the owner decides to sell the club, it’ll be better to have such bargaining position.

    1. Yes Taremi would be ideal. He’s the typical striker. Has almost everything you’d get from Giroud and more. Or the younger version in Broja. I’m not excited about any of Davids Zirkzee Kean even at low cost as Taremi/Broja. I want a fast powerful striker with a striker instinct, not necessarily a skillful one you’ve that in Okafor as a CF. You’ve to get the right players mostly based on characteristics or don’t get anyone at all. I feel this David guy won’t shine even more than Jovic.

  2. Crazy suggestion here: How about Lorenzo Lucca? Looks like he’s emerging and doing so at a club that is poor offensively. We could get him for 15-20m. Surely he could double his tally playing for us.

    1. I remember we’re closely related to him before that move to Ajax. Not really sure about young and promising again. We have too many of that. We desperately someone that’s need ready-made. Moreover for the striker position.

      1. I hear you. For comparison, Lucca has 6 goals in 18 games, while Giroud has 10 in 17. Giroud didn’t break out until the 2010-11 season when he scored 12 in 37 in Ligue 1 for Montpellier, having previously only played in Ligue 2. He was 24 years old (same age as Lucca currently). The next season he scores 21 in 36, and then moves to Arsenal. The rest is history.

    1. This statement doesn’t make sense. How can any money spent be a good deal if the player doesn’t work out? This isn’t Chelsea, we can’t just buy another $n player when the previous $n player just doesn’t work out. Was CDK a good deal? Wouldn’t you rather have that 35m in the bank or spent elsewhere?

      1. Given his age and track record, unlikely his value will drop quickly if it doesn’t pan out. Like getting CDK was also a good move that didn’t pan out – still a good move to make. David is a good player. You are thinking cashflow, I am thinking equity.

    1. He didn’t. Failed because of the agency fiasco. And probably due to the confusion of wage demand as well. And maybe it just a shortage of 500k or something just like Thuram’s case. But yes we should forget him as he’ll be on the contrary side next season. And he’ll also have some feast to our goal side next season
