MN: Milan interested in Julian Alvarez but no negotiations yet – where he would fit in Pioli’s system

AC Milan are following River Plate striker Julian Alvarez closely having been impressed by his exploits this season, a report claims.

The 21-year-old has 26 goals and 21 assists in 86 total appearances with Los Millonarios but it is this year that he has truly exploded, having amassed 10 goals and 4 assists in 12 league games. He won the Copa America over the summer as a member of the Argentine national team too.

However, MilanNews writes that Alvarez is seen as more of a second striker rather than a natural centre-forward. His main skills are technique and speed plus an instinct for goal, as he has netted both from inside the box and outside.

At the moment there is no negotiation underway between Milan and River Plate as per the report, but if he were to arrive he could easily act in the attacking trident behind a more physical striker, but also as a ‘false nine’ type if needed.

His contract with River Plate will expire in December 2022 and Alvarez has the highest market value in Argentina, as Transfermarkt has his value at €20m. Lots of clubs are interested in signing him,
