MN: Milan-linked defender could require surgery after recent injury

By Euan Burns -

Torino defender Alessandro Buongiorno could have to undergo an operation for an injury he picked up against Cagliari, potentially scuppering a late move to AC Milan.

Buongiorno has been heavily linked with a move to Milan throughout the January transfer window but reservations over the price tag to force a winter move mean it has not materialised.

Against Cagliari on Friday night, he suffered a shoulder dislocation which has caused serious concern for the Granata.

The head coach, Ivan Juric, said after the game (via Milan News) about the Italian defender: “His injury is no small thing, he will be out for a while.”

He is going to be evaluated further on Monday but there is a chance that he will have to have surgery, which would mean missing well over a month of action. After seeing a specialist, they may decide that surgery is not needed and only a month of football will have to be missed.

Either way, it seems highly unlikely that Milan will fork out the money needed to sign Buongiorno when he may not have too much of the season left on the pitch.

Stefano Pioli is desperate to sign a new defender this month but so far, only Matteo Gabbia has come in, returning early from his loan at Villarreal.
