MN: Milan not giving up on AZ Alkmaar midfield star – further contacts with agent held

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan are ‘not giving up’ on the signing of AZ Alkmaar captain Teun Koopmeiners and have had contacts with his agents, a report claims.

It is no secret that the Rossoneri are ready to overhaul their midfield department this summer with Lucas Biglia and Giacomo Bonaventura leaving on free transfers plus doubts over the futures of Franck Kessie and Lucas Paqueta.

According to Pietro Mazzara’s latest for MilanNews, Milan are keen on Red Bull Salzburg star Dominik Szoboszlai but the competition is continuing to grow, meaning Ivan Gazidis and co. ‘must accelerate now’ and ‘cannot afford to wait any longer’.

The management are not giving up Alkmaar’s 22-year-old star Teun Koopmeiners either, he adds. The Netherlands international is profile that the club likes and for which, recently, there has been some contact between Gazidis’ right-hand man Hendrik Almstadt and the agents of the player.

Tuttosport (via MilanNews) reported in April that competition is high for Koopmeiners too and it could take €20m to get a deal done.

Everton were linked with a £12 million swoop via The Sun, while Calciomercato.com report that West Ham are interested too.
