MN: Milan welcome the return of Romagnoli – he will be called upon to increase leadership

By Oliver Fisher -

After returning from a prolonged absence due to a muscle problem, Alessio Romagnoli has the chance to show how much Milan were missing their captain.

As MilanNews notes, Romagnoli went 88 days without playing after sustaining an injury towards the end of the 2019-20 season, something which saw Matteo Gabbia given an opportunity to partner the immovable Simon Kjaer.

Romagnoli returned in arguably the most difficult of circumstances, facing Inter in the derby at San Siro and the task of keeping Lautaro and Lukaku quiet, ultimately being part of a winning effort and recovering well after a shaky start.

A few days after the victory, the Rossoneri faced Celtic and ran out winners again. This time Romagnoli was not tested as much as the Scottish champions were without their best forward in Edouard, but the captain very much looked sharp and more up to game speed.

Now, the 25-year-old will face off against his former club in Roma and will be called upon to increase his leadership in the team, which already has vocal leaders in the likes of Kjaer, Ibrahimovic and Donnarumma. Technical growth is as important as mental growth, and it is time for Romagnoli to show what Milan have been missing.
