MN: Milan’s probable XI against Juventus – two spots up for grabs as Pioli sticks with new system

By Oliver Fisher -

AC Milan will be looking to put right their failures from the second half of Sunday’s 4-2 derby defeat to Inter when they face Juventus on Thursday night.

The Rossoneri will also be hoping to make the final of the Coppa Italia for the third time in five years, but they will have to beat Juventus – who they lost to both times in said finals – if they are to make it to Rome.

According to MilanNews.it, Pioli will continue with the 4-4-1-1 / 4-2-3-1 system which worked excellently during the first half against Inter. The starting XI is largely confirmed but there are still two spots to be decided.

Defence

Gianluigi Donnarumma despite the temporary physical problem sustained on Sunday against Inter, will start in net and will be (hopefully better) protected by Theo Hernandez and Alessio Romagnoli.

However, it has not yet been confirmed whether Simon Kjaer or Mateo Musacchio will be the right-sided centre-back, while Davide Calabria is set to take the spot of the suspended Andrea.

Midfield

Ismael Bennacer and Franck Kessiè will be the deeper duo out of the midfield, while Samu Castillejo will once again feature out on the right side.

On the left, there is a battle between Ante Rebic and Rafael Leao, which means Giacomo Bonaventura will not feature.

Attack

Hakan Calhanoglu will start once again in Pioli’s formation, MilanNews claim, while Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be the centre-forward, hoping to build off a dominant derby display.

Probable Milan XI (4-4-1-1): Donnarumma; Calabria, Kjaer, Romagnoli, Theo; Castillejo, Kessie, Bennacer, Rebic; Calhanoglu; Ibrahimovic.
